Introduction: Log Cabin Made With Paper

Here is a neat design of a log cabin made from paper. You can build it cheaply but it takes time. If you see mistakes, please comment, this is my first Instructable! Following is the list of supplies you need.

Supplies

-Paper

-Hot glue gun and glue sticks

-Tape

-Scissors

-Regular pencil or pen and an unsharpened pencil

-Ruler

-2 toothpicks

-Gray and brown spray paint

Step 1: Deciding the Size of the Logs.

Decide the size of logs you're going to make for your cabin. I recommend using 2x7 1/2 in. paper strips, as I did, which you form around a regular size, unsharpened pencil, then tape the lose edge to the log. You can use other sizes, such as 1 1/2 x 6 or 8 in. My Instructable centers around 2x7 1/2 and 4 in. strips.

Step 2: Making the Logs.

Cut, tape, and roll forty-five 7 1/2 in. logs. Then cut another forty-five 4 in. logs. To tape the logs, take a piece of tape as long as the paper and tape it to the paper. When you roll up the log, make sure the adhesive side is up. Then roll right over the tape. You probably will have a few extra logs. See the pictures for instructions.

Step 3: Notching the Logs.

Notch the ends of the 71/2 in. logs (see the images above.) Take the log and make two cuts halfway through the log. The first notch should be almost 3/8 in. away from the end. The distance between the first cut and the second cut should be as wide as the log. Push the cut piece down until it rests on the bottom the log. Notch both ends.

Step 4: Building the Cabin.

Start building by placing log 1 & log 2, (notched side up,) then lay log 3 with glue, notches down, so that the notches in the third log are in the notches of the first and second log. For the doorway: cut a log crosswise in half, then trim 1 1/4 in. off of both pieces to make the door 2 1/2 in. wide. Glue the short logs to logs one and two. Repeat this procedure, except from now on keeping notched parts down. Make the cabin three logs high, then go to the next step.

Step 5: Making the Window and Door.

Make a window. The window should be 2 in. wide, so cut a log in half and trim one in. off both pieces. Keep building taller, making the window and door. The last cut piece for both the window and door should be the sixth log. The seventh logs for both sides should be whole.

Step 6: Making the Roof.

Once the cabin is eight logs high, start on the roof. Cut the front and back wall logs shorter and shorter as the picture shows( I accidentally deleted my other picture, the better one.) Put the side logs in farther and farther. At the peak, glue two logs on top of each other. Take you 4 in. logs, put one on the very end, in front of the logs that stick out, and glue it in place.Put the next log on the other side of the logs that stick out of the roof. Glue more logs side by side until you come to the boards that stick out. Glue another log on the other side of those sticking out. Repeat with the other side of the roof.

Step 7: Finishing the Roof.

Cut 2/3 of four 4 in. logs away almost to the end (see picture.) Cover the logs that stick out with these. Then take a 7 1/2 in. log and glue it in the center of the roof for the ridgepole.

Step 8: Finishing the Window and Doorway.

To finish the door, take a 3 1/8 in. log and glue one end to the log over the door. Then glue the short logs to it. Repeat with the other side of the doorway.

To finish the window, take a 1 5/8 in. log and glue it to the logs above and below the window. Glue the short logs to it and repeat the process with the other side of the window. Then take two toothpicks and trim them to size to stick in the window. Glue one horizontally and one vertically for the window panes.

Step 9: Making the Door.

To make the door, get 3 3 1/8 in. logs, smash them flat, and tape them as close together side by side as you can. Then take a piece of paper and glue it on the back of the smashed logs. Trim the door until it fits, then glue the left side of the door in place with the flat piece of paper inside.

Step 10: Making the Chimney.

When you make the chimney, cut 1 1/4 in. out of the center of the two bottom logs(on the rear side.) Then place the ends of two 1 1/4 in. pieces up against the wall on both sides of the hole, and glue them fast. Take a 2 in. piece glue it to the other small pieces. Glue the same size pieces on top of each other until you have 12 layers, then use 1 1/2 in. pieces instead of a 2 in. piece and move the 1 1/4 in. pieces in (see photo.) When you get above the roof put another 1 1/2 in. piece in front. Do one or two layers above the roof.

Step 11: Spray Paint the Cabin.

Spray painting the log cabin is easy! Spray the chimney very lightly with brown, then spray it heavily with gray. The rest of the cabin gets painted brown. Spray the cabin heavily and later all you probably need to is a little bit of touch up at some spots.

Step 12: Enjoy Your Log Cabin!

Make a cabin like this and enjoy its REALISTIC looks!
