Step 1: Tools You'll Need
- 2 pairs of old headphones
- Flat head screwdriver
- Spray paint
Step 2: Pry Open the Earpieces
First thing you'll need to do is to pry open each earpiece with a pair of pliers in order to expose the magnets. Once you got the earpieces open you should be able to see little magnets in the center. Carefully pop out the magnets using a screwdriver.
Would be better if you used a similar wooden tool in order not to scratch the magnets.
Step 3: Arrange the Magnets
Once you've got the magnets out test their polarity and how they interact. Mark the sides of the magnets that are later going to stick to each other.
In most cases you will find that the magnets have washers on top. They won't have any practical use for your earrings, therefore, you can get rid of them.
Some of the headphones might use magnets that are split in half, in which case you will need to keep the washer in order to keep the magnets in place.
Step 4: Paint Them
Place the magnets with the marked sides down and hit them with a several coats of spray paint and let it dry.
This step can be skipped entirely, if the metallic finish is your preferred look for the earrings.
Step 5: *Optional Step: Personalize.
You can personalize your earrings by adding your initials or a logo of your favorite band. Here's how you do it:
Dip a toothpick into a little bit of acetone for 30 seconds and use it to carefully scrape away the paint exposing the magnet surface.
Step 6: Stay Hydrated!
It's very important to drink plenty of water during the day. Always keep a bottle of water with you so that it's always available.
And it doesn't have to be plain water either, you can put lemon in it or just go for tea. Just get that H2O in your system.
In addition to improved health, drinking plenty of water will give you an added benefit of having a legit reason to excuse yourself to the bathroom when people start blabbering about their irrelevant drama.
Peace Out ...
