Introduction: Magnetic Headphone (holding Bluetooth, Mp3 Player Etc)

About: Animator, illustrator, maker of electronic and noise music.

OK, I missed taking pictures when soldering. Sorry. Still, this project is similar to many others, e.g.

https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Bluetooth-Hea... in that you take the headphones apart, drill in them and solder new stuff there = you need a pair of headphones with enough space for that.

You need (links for reference only):
1) 3.5 female panel jack, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Panel-Mount-Ja...

2) Neodymium magnets with holes drilled, e.g. https://www.clasohlson.com/se/Neodymmagnet/Pr31056...

2.2) Magnetic tape (if your mp3 player is not magnetic enough to be held by the magnets)

3) Short 3.5 mm - to 3.5 mm jack cables, e.g. goo.gl/6bi6LS

4) Any old headphones, over ear, with place for the panel mount jack and screws.

5) bolts (screws) + nuts + washers to secure the magnets. I also used glue.

I started with taking apart the headphones, drilling the holes. Mounted the magnets (with both glue and screws). Then I soldered the jack, and put the headphones back together again. I glued some magnetic tape to the back of an old mp3 player, and a Bluetooth module to be able to easily switch between them.

It all works nicely actually, all harder connections e.g. broke the players in my backpack. This way I can combine any old mp3 player or bluetooth module with my old neckband headphones. :D
