Introduction: Make a Beautiful Sola Flower Arrangement and Rope-Wrapped Vase

About: My love of making things started young, with a mom who was always coming up with projects and a dad whose tool collection still gives me envy. I got my love of bright colors from mom and my love of working ...

With as much as we LOVE having fresh flowers around the house, keeping our vases filled year-round has become quite expensive, and cleaning up as they drop their petals has just added one more to-do to an already full list. Though neither of us have never been huge fans of traditional artificial flowers, we found something we CAN live with: Sola Wood Flowers. These flowers are made from a lightweight wood that look really good from afar—and up close.

To fuel our need for beautiful pops of color around the house with the desire to trim the budget a bit, we created a beautiful arrangement with just a few materials and a free afternoon.

Supplies:

Sola Wood Flowers

Craft Paint

Water

Mixing Cups

Fork

Wire Floral Stems

Step 1: Dye the Sola Wood Flowers

  1. Gather the following materials: water, craft paint, mixing cup, fork, egg carton, and sola wood flowers.
  2. Mix craft paint of your choosing with water in a 1:1 ratio.
  3. Quickly dip the sola wood flowers into paint mixture, ensuring you cover the entire flower with color.
Tip: You only need to dip the flower for a few seconds. If the wood flower gets too wet, it could become misshapen.
  4. Shake excess moisture off of flower.
  5. Set flower in egg carton to dry.
Tip: Dry time will depend on the temperature and size of flower.
  6. Repeat with all flowers.

Step 2: Stem the Sola Wood Flowers (once Dry)

  1. Gather the following materials: hot glue gun, extra glue sticks, and wire floral stems.
  2. Preheat hot glue gun.
  3. Grab wire close to one of the ends.
  4. Apply a small dot of hot glue to wire.
  5. Push wire firmly into the underside of the flower.
  6. Allow glue to cure.

Step 3: Secure Rope Around Vase

  1. Gather the following materials: clear floral tape, vase, scissors, hot glue gun, extra glue sticks, and rope.
  2. Preheat hot glue gun.
  3. Create a grid across the opening of the vase using the clear floral tape.
  4. This will help hold your greenery in place.
  5. Starting at the bottom, apply a thin layer of hot glue to the end of the rope and press firmly to attach.
  6. Continue wrapping rope up vase, applying hot glue on all sides.
  7. At the top of the vase, cut rope to size and secure end in an inconspicuous place with hot glue.

Step 4: Arrange Flowers and Greenery

  1. Gather the following materials: assorted greenery, finished sola wood flowers on stems.
  2. Once your greenery is set, begin placing flowers throughout the arrangement, being sure to vary the height and colors throughout the arrangement.
  3. Once your greenery is set, begin placing flowers throughout the arrangement, being sure to vary the height and colors throughout the arrangement.
  4. Place greenery stems in vase, starting around the outside and working your way toward the center.
Tip: For a semi-symmetrical look, place one stem of the same variety on each side before moving onto the next variety.

Enjoy!
