Make at Home Pumpkin Spice Latte Sauce

It's that time of year. The leaves are changing, and the skies are darkening. That’s right- it’s harvest time and nothing says fall like a warm mug of pumpkiny-spicy goodness. But who wants to leave the house in this cold and blustery weather? Good news- now you don’t have to. For a lot less money than the corner coffee shop, you can make your own pumpkin spice sauce using all natural ingredients to add to your morning coffee right at home.

Step 1: First, Gather the Necessary Equipment and Ingredients

To make the pumpkin sauce and your morning coffee, you'll need:

  • •Small saucepan to pre-cook sauce mixture
  • •Heat-proof glass jar for storing pumpkin sauce in refrigerator
  • •Latte machine or coffee maker for preparing final drink

For the Pumpkin Sauce:

  • • ½ c. pumpkin puree
  • • 1 c. sugar
  • • 1 t. vanilla
  • • 1 ½ c. milk (coconut or almond milk can be substituted for a dairy-free version)
  • • 1 ½ t. ground cinnamon
  • • ½ t. ground nutmeg
  • • ½ t. ground ginger
  • • ¼ t. ground cloves

·Freshly ground coffee or espresso, water for brewing and optional milk for steaming

Step 2: Next, Prepare the Pumpkin Sauce

1. Combine the pumpkin sauce ingredients in a small saucepan

2. Carefully whisk the ingredients until thoroughly combined

3. Using med-low heat, bring the sauce to a low simmer, stirring frequently

4. Allow sauce to simmer 15-20 minutes. It will slowly thicken

5. Stir sauce mixture frequently to keep it from scalding. As the sauce thickens, it will darken to a warm spicy brown color

6. Remove from heat, and allow sauce to cool slightly

Step 3: Next, Prepare Your Latte

1. Measure 1 Tablespoon of the pumpkin sauce mixture into your favorite mug

2. Prepare a double shot of espresso or ½ c of strong coffee according to the directions of your machine

3. Pour coffee over pumpkin sauce in your cup and mix well.Add fresh or steamed milk

4. For the complete coffee shop experience, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground nutmeg, or cinnamon

Enjoy!

Step 4: Finally, Store Remaining Sauce for Next Time

1. Carefully pour remaining pumpkin sauce into a heat-proof glass jar

2. Store sauce in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks

This recipe makes enough for approximately 16 lattes depending on how sweet you like your drinks
