Maker Studio Train With Rotating Winch

Introduction: Maker Studio Train With Rotating Winch

Made with everyday crafting supplies, recycled cardboard from everyday items and the MakerStudio Winches Kit.

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Supplies

You will need: Scissors, the MakerStudio Winches Kit, Tape or Glue, Exacto Knife, pen, ruler, additional string and various sizes of cardboard tubes and boxes.

Step 2: Step 2: Begin Construction

Create the Base, add wheels, add a smokestack and a cab for the conductor. Make it look like a train. Use a ruler and a pen to measure and mark so the wheels are level and equally spaced. Most parts can be made from prefabricated recycled tubes and boxes. Infinite possibilities for creation.

Step 3: Step 3: Assemble Rotating Winch

Use a sturdy and strong tube, from plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Cut tube to desired height and assemble the winch towards the top end of the tube.

Lock only the gears, and all the parts which are connected to the smaller plastic dowel onto the dowel so that it doesn't rotate, with the rubber pieces included in the kit.

All other parts will be loosely kept in place with the rubber pieces so the dowels which control the winch and gears are free to rotate.

Step 4: Step 4: Attach Winch to Train

Use a slightly wider tube, from paper towels or gift wrap, and cut hole in the top of the train platform, towards the back. Make sure you avoid the axle for the wheels. Cut this tube at a height which matches the height of the tube below the winch assembly. Insert this tube into the hole, tape or glue to secure it into place. Insert the tube with the wench assembly into this tube. Do not add tape or glue so that the winch can rotate.

Step 5: Step 5: Decorate Your Train!

Use Paint, glitter, beads or anything you feel is appropriate.

*May want to take off Maker Studio parts to decorate.*
