Introduction: Making Black and White Images on Photoshop

Hello, today I am going to show a very easy way to make an Image in Photoshop black and white. It's really one of the easiest things you can do in Photoshop, but if you are a beginner, no worries, I got you covered!

Supplies

You will only need one thing:

- Photoshop (I am using the most current version of Creative Cloud, but it shouldn't be much different for earlier versions)

Step 1: Find an Image That You Want Turned Into Black and White

I just found an image of a cat on Google Images, but you can use any photo that you want!

Step 2: Put the Image Into Photoshop

Click on File->New and choose your desired image size. If you have an image already copied from Google Images like I do, the image size should be already correct.

If you are using a image on your computer find the image on your computer, right click it, and click

Open With-> Photoshop

Step 3: Desaturate the Image

Go to Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate

You should get a result similar to the image on the right.

You could end there, but I like to take it a couple steps further...

Step 4: The Burn Tool

After the Image is desaturated, I like to go in with the burn tool and highlight the shadows and stuff to give the image a little more depth to the image.

The detail are a little finite, but I just go around the edges and the shadows, and on some of the focal points (ei, the mouth, eyes, and ears of the cat.

Step 5: The Burn Tool

You can't see a huge difference, but if you look at the side by side image, you can tell the mouth and some of the shadows are a bit darker, giving the image more depth.

Step 6: Save the Image

Once you are done you go to File->Save As and choose where you want to save the image and what file format, I'd recommend saving it as a JPEG or PNG, but that's up to the user.

Step 7: You're Finished!

There you have it, a beautiful Black and White Image.
