I lost my old wallet and so I was looking for a cheap, effective way of making a wallet to store cards as well as notes. I came across this easy 5-minute DIY and thought that it's perfect! It is really easy to make, works great but most importantly can be customized to make it personal!
Step 1: Step 1: Gather the Resources!
For this build, you'll need:
A spare sheet of printer paper (A4),
The chosen paper (A4 at least, although B4 is recommended), for the actual wallet,
A pencil or a marker
Note that B4 paper will work best for this design.
Step 2: Step 2: Fold the Designed Paper Into Eighths.
Take your sheet of paper and lay it out so the layout is in landscape rather than portrait. The paper should then be folded in half (across the horizontal side), making a crease in the middle of the paper (horizontally).
Next, open the folded paper and fold each side into the crease in the middle that you just made (Also horizontal).
Next, fold the paper up, vertically, so there are now eight boxes separated by the seven creases.
Step 3: Step 3: Six, One Inch Cuts.
Now, you will need to unfold your wallet and make six one inch cuts on each of the creases (not the horizontal crease however! Be very careful here as this could ruin your wallet!).
I'd suggest you go grab your ruler and mark out the six cuts-to-be with a pen or a marker.
Step 4: Step 4: Fold the Second and Fourth Tab Inwards.
After making your incision, take the second and fourth tab that you have just made and fold it inwards on both sides.
Make sure that you are folding the right tabs by checking the front of your printed paper! The bottom tab and second-from-the-top tab should be folded away from the front of your printed paper, see the images above!
Step 5: Step 5: Cutting a Card Holder
Now, take your paper (the bottom with the sides folded in) and mark out on either side of the crease an eighth of an inch. This mark should go up until the first crease (as the page is flipped onto it's bottom, this will be a horizontal crease).
Now, above that, draw out a rough diamond. It should be small enough/narrow enough to be fit two fingers in the middle of the diamond. Now, just cut this out! Tape up the small eight of an inch hole at the bottom of the paper, so there is just the hole with the diamond. The paper should sit 100% flush at the moment, but that's fine. Just bully it into place for now!
Step 6: Step 6: Folding the Wallet Into Place
Next, take the paper and fold the bottom along the crease so that the bottom flap covers the diamond, the do the same on the other side so that the top and the bottom flap are covering the two middle flaps.
Then, take the two sides with the folded edge and fold them over each other. The diamond should now be on one side and the other side should be the outside of the wallet.
Now, take the two flaps on the side of the wallet and fold them into the small pocket on the edge of the side that doesn't have the diamond. You can tape these shut or leave them open.
The wallet should now have taken form!
Step 7: Step 7: Personalize It!
You can now personalize it if your like. Some ways of doing this are:
Changing the shape of the diamond card holder to other shapes.
Choose a paper that is personalize/printed with nice/fancy designs.
Open up the side pockets so you can use them for coins maybe?
Add a latch so your wallet doesn't come open!
If you liked this build, make sure to share it and like it! Have you made it? did you change anything? Tell me about it! I'd love to know!
