Introduction: Monte Cristo

About: I've been cooking for a very long time and would like to share my experience with others. I lived in France where most of my culinary knowledge began. Moved to the US and am working towards opening my own rest…

Mini sandwiches of yummyness, fried and cheesy. Great for appetizers or anything you can think of !

Step 1: Ingredients

For the batter:
1 1/2 cup flour
2 tblspn sugar
1 tblspn baking powder
1/2 tblspn salt
1 egg
1 1/2 cup of water

Sandwiches:
6 slices of white bread
6 slices of shaved ham
6 slices of shaved turkey
3 slices of Swiss cheese

For topping:
Powdered sugar
Currant jelly

Step 2: Make Batter (dry)

In a bowl combine:
1 1/2 cups of flour
2 tblspn sugar
1 tblspn baking powder
1/2 tblspn salt
And mix very well. Make sure there are no clumps.

Step 3: Finish Batter

After well mixing the batter add:
1 egg
1 1/2 cups of water
Mix well and place in fridge for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Make Sandwiches

Place 6 slices of white bread down.
Add turkey
Add ham
Add cheese
Close sandwich

Step 5: Cut Sandwiches and Pick Them

After closing sandwiches cut them in 1/4.
Rotate 90 degrees and place 3 picks per slice.
Cut sandwiches around picks. You'll end up with 12 mini sandwiches per sandwich.
Make sure pick goes thru a little so the minis don't fall apart.

Step 6: Setup Monte Cristo Making Station

Setup your station like mine.
Set burner on mid-high and add oil.
!!! If you don't want to deep fry these try clarified butter or simply in a pan with some coating spray !!!

Step 7: Coat Monte Cristo With Batter

Coat your minis with batter using a brush or spoon. Place in pan and cook on all sides.
Don't hesitate to flip them too early, you can always cook them a little more. You're looking to get the batter cooked a little bit and mostly have the cheese melted while the bread is still soft. Can't use beer batter for that reason (it will harden the bread).

Step 8: Enjoy !

Use powdered sugar as topping and a little currant jelly as dip.
