How to recycle some parts of an old bed and Ikea tablet to make a stable, modern stand for a laptop or a projector or music sheets.
After a little sanding by hand, just make sure to have :
_ 1 hinge (~3€)
_ 1 slider compass (~10€)
_ 1 plate plinth (~2€)
_ enough screws
_ maybe some nails
_ a fine saw (I used just one japanese saw)
_ a square
Step 1: The Main Body
For the body I used a beam from the frame of an old bed. Make sure it's thick enough.
The length is up to your proper heigth. As for me i'm ~175cm tall so I cut it 165cm. Just enough to read comfortably while singing and to reach my keyboard while playing drums.
Step 2: The Feet
Cut four equal pieces out of a cleat and make two opposite angles of 45° for each feet.
Drill two holes like on the picture and screw each feet to the main body.
Step 3: The Frame
The frame is made of plinths.
At first I tried to nail them on to the tray borders but the thing is pinewood easily makes little rifts so i pre-drilled little holes and screwed the thing together.
Step 4: The Pivot Point
To position the hinge, you better assemble the tray with it's frame so that you can have a stop to screw the hinge to it's tray support.
Positionning the pivot point on the very edge of the structure will guarantee the security of whatever you put on the tray by not letting it pivot freely.
Then find perfect center of your attachment et screw the whole thing.
Now you can screw the tray to the main body.
Step 5: The Security Support
So in order to re-use any falls as much as possible you can take a little pyramid from the feets, drill a hole in the little pyramid AND in the main body so that you can glue a trunnion that assures the solidity of the attachment, then glue the whole thing together.
Note that if the surface of the head on the main body is not as leveled as you want it to be, you can refine the setting of the tray thanks to that little piece !
Step 6: The Lever
Finally this tool is used as a door lever in kitchens. It has a brake on one direction and move freely on the other direction so you will be able to finely set an angle to the head and you will have to push more or less hardly to retract it, depending on the setting you chose to apply.
Step 7: Voilà..
