Introduction: Naturally Curly Hair Routine

Hey everyone!

So I'm assuming you clicked on this instructables because either you have naturally curly hair and you don't know how to take care of it, or you have naturally curly hair and you like to try new routines.  Either way, this routine will help you get your curls in shape and prettier than ever.

My hair story is rather long, I went from dying my hair bright red (aka damage) and blow drying it every day to sticking with my natural color and using minimal to no heat at all.  That was a really hard change to make.  But I learned a bunch of cute styles with natural curls and I am ready to share all my secrets with my fellow curlies! =)

Keep reading for a naturally curly hair routine!  Thanks!

Step 1: Products I Use

For starters, I use several laps of products in my routine.  You don't have to stick to these exact products, it all depends on your hair type!

To wash my hair I use Suave Humectant Moister Shampoo for Dry Hair which is followed by the Humectant Moister Conditioner as well.  Both of these products aren't expensive and they work really well.  They smell good too!!! =D

After washing and conditioning I use Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus.  You guys, I swear by this stuff!!!  I have much stronger hair now and I don't have to use a lot of this product either.  But it is a little expensive.  My Mom got it for me off of Amazon for much cheaper than it is originally sold for in Salons though.  After I rinse out that, I put Redken Extreme Anti-Snap (another God given product).

Then after that, I put in (my favorite) Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream by Nym.  XD  I love this stuff!  I went off of it for about a year and then picked it up in placement of gel or mousse.  I realized how much I missed my curls being perfect!!!

      ------ How I grow my hair -----------

I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week.  I know it sounds gross but I don't have oily hair.  Scrubbing your hair everyday can make you loose a lot of it too.

I COMB through my hair.  NO BRUSH, unless you are styling it strait or have a huge knot.  Never use brushes over and over in your hair because it is very violent towards the strands.

The night before I wash my hair, I always put Sweet Almond Oil and Avocado Oil throughout my hair and put it in a braid or a bun.  This will make your hair silky smooth.  It also reduced knots.

Last, but not least, I take Vitamin B-Complex.  It makes your hair and nails grow like weeds.
If you want your hair to grow as fast as possible, take 2 of these a day.

Step 2: Combing

I comb my hair before I wash it (reason being that it gets rid of future knots that will break your strands).
I comb my hair upside down/direction it will be pointing when washing it.

Start at the bottom of your ends and work your way up.

Step 3: Wash and Rinse!

Instead of lathering up my whole head, I only lather up my scalp.  The rinse out lathers up my ends enough to wash them.  After all, it is your scalp that gets oily not your hair.  I also give myself a mini scalp massage. =)
Be gentle when rinsing the shampoo out!

Step 4: Towel Drying + Detangling

This part is semi-crucial to get right.  When putting your hair in a towel, I feel that a lot of girls twist their hair within the towel.  You should avoid this because your hair is at a very fragile state when it is wet and twisting all the strands can cause damage.
So when you are putting your towel up, gently fold (not twist) your towel.

After towel drying your hair, take it out and apply a little conditioner to detangle it before combing through again.

Step 5: Deep Conditioning

My favorite favorite favorite favorite beautiful, lovely, gorgeous, God given product.... EVER is Redken Deep Conditioner.

My Mom got this for me because my hair had been breaking off (my Mom's a fantastic beautician ha ha) so she bought this for me and I fell in love the first time I used it.

I use it more towards my problem spots (where I have split ends) and the bottom portion of my hair.

After I put this on my hair, I pile all my hair on top of my head in a loose bun.  Then, I let it sit on my hair for about 45 minutes to an hour.

Step 6: Styling

For styling, I just put the Anti-Snap serum at my ends and the Curl Defining Cream throughout my hair.

I hope this helped with any curly problems you are having!!!
