In the cold, winter months nothing is better than curling up with a warm fleece blanket. Instead of spending money on a store bought blanket, it is easy to create a personalized one at home in just a couple of hours! You can pick whatever pattern of fleece is your favorite and it can also be a great gift for someone else. No sewing is required, no experience necessary, only cutting and tying.

Step 1: Materials

Two sheets of fleece

The size and pattern of the blanket is completely up to you. A child sized blanket would be about a yard of fabric, whereas an adult sized blanket could be three yards, or even bigger.

Step 2: Preparation

Optional: Wash the fleece

Lay the two pieces of fleece on top of each other on a flat surface. The “right” side of each pattern should be facing the outside; this will be the front and back side of your blanket. Trim around the edges to ensure that they are the same size and that there are no raw edges.

Step 3: First Cut

Cut a square out of all four corners, approximately 2x2 inches.

Then, cut strips into the entire outside rim of the fabric, approximately two inches tall by one inch wide.

Step 4: Second Cut

Step 4: Fold each strip in half and make a small insertion in the center to create a small hole

Step 5: Braiding

Start anywhere on the blanket and pick a strip of fleece. Put the bottom strip through the top strip

Move to the next strip and place that top layer into the previous bottom layer. Then place that bottom strip into the top.

Be sure to work with every other fabric at a time. In this case, I made sure that a pink strip did not go into another pink strip. If a mistake is made and the same fabric is inserted into another, simply unravel the mistake and correct it.
