A blondie is a rich, sweet dessert bar. It resembles the traditional chocolate brownie, but substitutes vanilla for the cocoa used in brownies, and contains brown sugar. Blondies are made with flour, brown sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, and vanilla. Blondies often contain white or dark chocolate chips. Blondies differ significantly from brownies because unlike the brownie they contain no chocolate or chocolate flavoring other than chocolate chips, which may be included. Blondies are baked in a pan in an oven in a manner similar to that of the baking of traditional brownies, they are then cut into rectangular shapes for serving. We hope you enjoy our Oreo version of a blondie!
Step 1: Gather Ingredients.
Gather all of your ingredients into one area to have them ready for baking.
- 2 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 12 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup Oreos, crushed (plus more for decoration)
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for decoration)
- ½ cup white chocolate chips (plus more for decoration)
Step 2: Gather Materials.
Gather all of your materials into one area to have them ready for baking.
- 9 x 13 Pan
- 1 large baking bowl
- 1 medium baking bowl
- 1 small bowl
- Parchment Paper
- 1 Whisk
- 1 Large spoon
- 1 Spatula
- Plastic Bag
Step 3: Preheat Oven to 325 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 4: Grease and Line Pan.
Rub the end of a stick of butter along the inside of a 9x13in pan. Make sure to coat the entire bottom and interior walls. Cut and place parchment paper to line the entire pan. Coat the entire parchment paper with the butter, making sure to cover entire bottom and walls.
Step 5: Mix Together Dry Ingredients.
In the smaller of your two bowls, add 2 ¼ cups of flour, ½ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Whisk these ingredients together.
Step 6: Melt the Butter.
Place 12 tablespoons of butter into a small bowl. Cover and heat in the microwave in 10 second intervals until the butter is melted.
Step 7: Mix Together Wet Ingredients.
In the larger of your two bowls, add all of the butter just melted, 1 cup of brown sugar packed, and ½ cup of granulated sugar. Stir together with a large spoon.
Step 8: Add 1 Egg.
In the large bowl, crack and add an egg.
Step 9: Add 1 Egg Yolk.
Separate out an egg yolk and add it to the large bowl.
There are many ways to separate the egg yolk, this is the way we did it. First grab a small bowl. Then crack the egg gently on either a flat surface or the rim of the bowl, trying to get as close to the middle as possible. It is easier to get the crack right in the middle if you use the rim of the bowl. While holding the egg over the bowl, gently use your fingers to pry the egg halves apart. The egg yolk is the yellow orange part of the egg. Let the yolk settle into one of the two halves. Let the egg whites run off the sides of the egg into the bowl. Gently transfer the egg yolk back and forth between the two egg shell halves, let as much egg whites as possible drip into the bowl below. Be gentle and careful to not break the egg yolk, this makes it harder to separate out the whites. Place the egg yolk into the wet ingredients bowl when done.
Stir with large spoon.
Step 10: Add Vanilla Extract.
Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Fold into batter.
Step 11: Combine All Ingredients.
Pour the smaller bowl with the dry ingredients into the larger bowl with the wet ingredients. Mix together using the large spoon and/or spatula. Whichever you prefer
Step 12: Crush Oreos.
Place 12 oreos into a plastic ziplock bag and crush it with a spoon to create crushed oreos.
Step 13: Add Oreos and Chocolate Chips.
Add in ½ cup white chocolate chips, ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, and 1 cup of crushed oreos. Mix in with large spoon.
Step 14: Press Dough Evenly Into the Pan.
Step 15: Add Extra Oreos and Chocolate Chips.
Add extra white and chocolate chips to the top of the batter. Break apart full oreos and place them gently on top of the batter.
