Paratha wiki

A paratha is a flatbread that originated in the Indian subcontinent. It is still prevalent throughout Pakistan, India and Burma, where wheat is grown and is the traditional staple of the area. Paratha is an amalgamation of the words parat and atta which literally means layers of cooked dough.[1] Alternative spellings and names include parantha, parauntha, prontha, parontay (in Punjabi), porota (in Bengali), palata (pronounced [pəlàtà]; in Burma), forota (in Sylheti), and farata (in Mauritius, Sri Lanka and the Maldives).

Step 1: Ingredients

  • 200 g Paneer (Cottage cheese) - 1 spoon
  • Garam Masala - 1 spoon
  • Salt - As per your taste
  • Coriander powder - 1 spoon
  • Chaat Masala (optional) - 1 spoon
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 spoon
  • Chopped green chilli - 1-2 (As per your taste)
  • Corainder leaves - 1 spoon
  • Edible oil - 1 bowl as shown in the video (Oil will be used in frying and also during kneading)
  • Water - 1 glass
  • Wheat flour - 2-3 big cups

Step 2: Kneading

  • First knead the flour by slowly adding water as shown. Keep adding water as much it is required for kneading.
  • DON'T ADD water in ONE GO. Add slowly as required.
  • Add some oil while kneading as shown.
  • Once done, cover and leave the kneaded flour for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Stuffing Prepration

  • Mash Paneer as shown.
  • Add Chat Masala, Red chilli powder, green chilli, Coriander, Salt, Garam masala and Coriander powder.
  • Mix it slowly.
  • After mixing keep it aside.

Step 4: Paratha Preparation

  • Break small portion from the kneaded flour.
  • Flatten it little with hands.
  • Apply some dry flour to ensure it will not stick while flatting it further.
  • Make a flat layer with the help of rollerpin or hand.
  • Now apply little oil on top as shown.
  • Now take some stuffing and place it on top as shown.
  • Close the layer as shown.
  • Now again flatten it SLOWLY with the help of roller pin or hand.
  • Prepare rest of Parathas in a similar manner.

Step 5: Cooking

  • Heat a pan (prefer non stick) on low medium heat.
  • Once heated, put some oil in pan.
  • Now put Paratha as shown.
  • Let it cook till bottom becomes light brown.
  • Now flip the side as shown.
  • Apply the oil on sides as shown to ensure the bottom is cooked well.
  • Once the bottom is good light brown then Paratha is ready.
  • Prepare rest of parathas similarly.

Step 6:

  • Transfer the Parathas to serving plate.
  • Put some butter on top as shown to enhance the taste.
  • Enjoy it with Raita, Curd, Pickle, Chutney or Sauce.
