About: Advanced 3d Modeling

Make your own Paper Softbox Flash Diffuser for your Sony RX100! Make your photos have professional lighting and shadows! Just follow along with these easy steps to make your own!

Step 1: Measure Up and Design in 3d!

I measured my camera to get all the flash dimensions, and created the softbox object in 3d! I then unwrapped it flat to create a paper cutout template in photoshop!

Step 2: Pick Version, Print Out the Template!

Pick the version you want to create, V1 or V2. Version 1 is easier to build and give's great results! Version 2 is a little trickier to build, but gives you a full professional softbox for high quality results! Download the paper template and print it out on 8.5x11 paper. Make sure you print at the "actual size" and the printer does not scale the print at all.

Step 3: Cutting and Scoring Edges

Cut the template out along the outside lines. After you cut the entire shape out, score the dotted lines with the back of your xacto blade.

Step 4: Folding and Gluing

Fold the paper along the dotted lines that you scored. The shape will slowly fold into form. Carefully add glue to the gray glue tabs, and glue it into shape! Feel free to carefully bend the paper to get the proper shape!

Step 5: INSTALL AND USE!

Easily install the softbox diffuser by popping up your rx100 flash, and carefully sliding it onto the flash! It is now installed! Enjoy being able to use your flash with a more professional look! You will get softer lighting and shadows, giving your photography a very clean, professional look! Experiment with different kinds of paper, and aiming the softbox in different directions to get different results!

Thanks so much! I’m going to try making other paper soft boxes for other on-camera flashes! Let me know if you have any suggestions for another camera!
