Pet Teepee/House

Introduction: Pet Teepee/House

About: Hello, my name is Auroris. Every day we have the opportunity to learn new things, to rethink tired processes, and to improve the way we work.

Hi everyone!

In this instructable I would like to share with you how to make small Teepee for your pet. I have 2 cats, 4 and 5-year-old. They are my best assistans in my craft working, and today I will make a play and relax place for them.

  • Fabric
  • 4 Sticks or poles or dowels of some kind, 60cm
  • Twine Rope
  • Ribbon (for decoration)
  • Filling (for pillow)
  • Sewing machine
  • LED String Lights Battery Powered

Make a frame and note all measurements that you will need: height, width and pole diameter. Please note that all my measurements are in centimeters. I draw working plan at paper which has made things easier.

Now transfer your measurements to piece of your fabric and mark lines.

Cut your fabric to the correct pattern. You should cut:

  • A. 3 triangle pieces at 52x47x6cm,
  • B. 4 pieces at 52x7cm, these will be tubes for poles,
  • C1,C2,C3. 3 pieces for the front side,
  • D. 2 strips 1cmx30cm for fastener,
  • E. 2 squares 45x45cm for pillow.

First sew the front side, the intrance. Work with pieces C1 and C2 to decorate with ribbons. You can use any ribbons you like. Then stitch together with piece C3.

Finish edges of strips (D).

Join all panels one by one, always work on WRONG side of you fabric. Start with piece B, that will be tubes, then follow with a piece A. When you attaching the front part, insert one strip(D) on each side to make fastener.

Now the crucial part! Sew each long pane(B), folding in half, with the RIGHT sides of the fabric, making the tubes that the poles will feed through to keep everything together.

Decorate the top piece of you pillow on fabric's Right side, then turn and sew 3 edges on Wrong side. Turn again and insert the filling, sew last edge.

Inser poles in to guide tubes through top opening. The frame opens up just like an umbrella. Adjust you contruction and use the rope. Tie a knot firmly then wrap around a few times and knot firmly again. Place the pillow inside.

All done!

    Hi Auroris!

First, your cats are BEAUTIFUL!! Second, your 'play and relax teepee' is pure genius! I'm about 12% Native American, from the Tribe of the Cherokee, and I try to make Native American items to add to my home decor to honor my heritage. I have 2 kitties, too, and I'll begin working on making 2 of these (you know, sibling rivalry!) right away. Thank you.

Thank you Barb for appreciation. I'm sure that your cats will enjoy it.

It looks so toasty, hope your cats like it)))

You forgot to mention the cat in your list of supplies!

Oh no! It’s my fail. One or two cats are must have! :)

Thanks! There's no limit to how much time you're willing to spend on your pet)))

    Hi, thanks for you question.

I measured direct on marked lines on the piece A. Take 12cm from the top edge and transfer the other sizes for C3, for C1 and C2 - take 37cm in height from middle of bottom edge.

    Results: 6x12x17; 9x37x25x40cm

If you have other measurements (a diferent width and height of frame) a good trick for you is to make a paper pattern from piece A, cut it in 3 parts, and transfer to the fabric. Don't forget to add 1cm for allowances.

That is one pampered pussy cat - beats a cardboard box any day.
