Poor Man's Kraoke - El Karaoke De Los Pobres

Foobar 2000 (FB2K) is a free music player and very customizable, a few days ago I discovered how to make several FB2K  installations on the same computer and configure each one according to my needs, in this case I will show you how to install and configure FB2K as a simple karaoke machine.
This system has its limitations but can be fun. One thing that does not work very well is the plugin to remove vocals from songs, if you can get the instrumental tracks (without vocals) works much better, otherwise you can sing a duet with your favorite artists.
There is a plugin to play midi files, but in my case I do not like this kind of tracks so I have not tried but if you want to try here is the information
The distribution of the different components on the screen is divided into two parts, the left side to make the search and create the playlist and the right side seeks to provide as much space as possible for the lyrics of the songs.

You will need an active internet connection to download lyrics.

Foobar 2000 (FB2K) es un reproductor de música gratuito y muy personalizable, hace unos días descubrí como hacer varias instalaciones de FB2K en el mismo equipo y configurar cada una de acuerdo a mis necesidades, en este caso les voy a mostrar como instalar y configurar FB2K como una sencilla maquina de Karaoke.
Este sistema tiene sus limitaciones pero puede llegar a ser muy divertido. Una de las cosas que no funciona muy bien es el plugin para eliminar la voz de las canciones, si puedes conseguir las pistas instrumentales (sin voz) funciona mucho mejor, sino, puedes cantar a duo con tus artistas favoritos.
Existe un plugin para reproducir archivos midi, pero en mi caso no me gustan este tipo de pistas asi que no lo he probado pero si deseas probarlo aquí está la información
La distribución de los diferentes componentes en la pantalla esta dividida en 2 partes, el lado izquierdo para hacer las búsquedas y crear la lista de reproducción y el lado derecho busca proporcionar el mayor espacio posible para la letra de las canciones.

Necesita una conexión activa a Internet para descargar la letra de las canciones.

Step 1: Download - Descargas

Download the following plugins (components) from here

Step 2: Install - Instalacion

To start the installation locate the file downloaded in previous step (foobar2000_v1.2.exe) and double-click.
The file name may change according to the downloaded version.
Installation is a standard process in windows, you just have to take into account three major steps:
1. Select portable installation.
2. Select a directory to install Foobar.
3. Select the full instalation.

Para iniciar la instalación busque el archivo foobar2000_v1.2.exe descargado en el paso anterior y haga doble click.
El nombre del archivo puede cambiar de acuerdo a la versión descargada.
La instalación es un proceso estandar en windows, solo hay que tener en cuenta 3 pasos muy importantes:
1. Haga una instalación portatil (portable install)
2. Seleccione un directorio para instalar Foobar.
3. Seleccióne la opción full

Step 3: Components Installation - Instalacion De Componentes

The installation of components or plugins is very simple, all files downloaded in the first step are comprezed files that contain a DLL file inside. The easiest way to install these components is unzip and copy the DLL files in the Components folder located in the folder where you installed Foobar.
Files with extension fb2k-component are zip files and can be unzipped with any application that handles this type of files, to unzip the 7z file you will need 7zip which can be downloaded from here.

At the end the components folder should look like the second image.

La instalación de los componentes o plugins es muy sencilla, todos los archivos descargados en el primer paso son archivos comprimidos que contienen un archivo DLL. La forma mas sencilla de instalar estos componentes es descomprimirlos y copiar los archivos DLL en la carpeta components localizada en la carpeta donde instalo el foobar.
Los archivos con extensión fb2k-component son archivos zip y se pueden descomprimir con cualquier aplicación que maneje este tipo de archivos, para el archivo de extensión 7z necesitará el programa 7zip el cual puede descargar de aquí.

Al terminar la carpeta components debe verse como la segunda imagen.

Step 4: Run Foobar - Ejecutar Foobar

Locate the folder where you installed Foobar and double click on the file foobar200.exe.
In the next window select Columns UI and OK
Then select the first option and OK.

Busque la carpeta donde instaló Foobar y haga doble click sobre el archivo foobar200.exe.
En la siguiente ventana seleccione la opción Columns UI y OK
Luego seleccione la primera opción y OK.

Step 5: Customize - Personalizar

To create the karaoke interface follow these steps:
1. File> Preferences> Display> Columns UI> Layout
2. Click New button - Assign a name, such as Karaoke.
3. In the window right click on NG Playlist and then Change Base > Splitters> Horizontal Splitter.
4. Right Click Horizontal Splitter > Insert Panel> Splitters> Vertical Splitter.
5. Repeat step 4.
6. Right click on the first Vertical Splitter> Panels> Queue editor contents.
7. Right click on the first Vertical Splitter> Playlists Views> NG Playlist.
8. Right click on the second Vertical Splitter> Panels> Item Details.
9. Right click on the second Vertical Splitter> Panels> Lyric Show 3.
10. Click on each of the items created and uncheck Show caption.
11. Click Media Library
12. Click on the Add button.
13. Locate your music folder and click OK.
14. Click Ok.
15. On the toolbar, right click check Quick Search toolbar.
16. On the toolbar, right click uncheck the playlist order.
17. On the toolbar, right-click check Volume.
18. File> Options> Playlist View> Grouping uncheck Show Groups and OK
19. Right click on the panel Lyric Show 3> Preferences Panel
20. Select Change Mode to Custom.
21. select the font, size, color, highlight color and background color according to your taste and OK.
22. Resize the panels according to your taste.


Para crear la interfase del karaoke siga los siguientes pasos:
1. File > Preferences > Display > Columns UI > Layout
2. Haga click en el boton New - Asigne un nombre, por ejemplo Karaoke.
3. En la ventana haga click derecho sobre NG Playlist  y luego Change Base > Splitters > Horizontal Splitter.
4. Click derecho sobre Horizontal Splitter > Insert Panel > Splitters > Vertical Splitter.
5. Repita el paso 4.
6. Click derecho sobre el primer Vertical Splitter > Panels > Queue contents editor.
7. Click derecho sobre el primer Vertical Splitter > Playlist Views > NG Playlist.
8. Click derecho sobre el segundo Vertical Splitter > Panels > Item Details.
9. Click derecho sobre el segundo Vertical Splitter > Panels > Lyric Show 3.
10. Haga click sobre cada uno de los elementos creados y desmarque la opcion Show caption.
11. Click en Media Library
12. Click en el boton Add.
13. Busque su carpeta de musica y click en aceptar.
14. Click en Ok.
15. Sobre la barra de herramientas haga click derecho marque la opción Quick Search toolbar.
16. Sobre la barra de herramientas haga click derecho desmarque la opción playlist order.
17. Sobre la barra de herramientas haga click derecho marque la opción Volume.
18. File > Options > Playlist View > Grouping desmarcar la opción Show Groups y OK
19. Click derecho sobre el panel Lyric Show 3 > Panel Preferences
20. Cambie Select Mode a Custom
21. seleccione el tipo de letra, tamaño, color, color de resaltado y color de fondo de acuerdo a su gusto y OK.
22. Redimensione los paneles de acuerdo a su gusto.

Step 6: How to Use - Como Usar El Karaoke.

1. Find the song you want to sing through the Quick Search bar.
2. In the search results list, right-click on the song that you want and select Add to playback queue.
3. Click the play button.
4. Start singing.

1. Busque la canción que desea cantar por medio de la barra de búsqueda rápida.
2. En el listado de resultado haga click derecho sobre la canción y selección Add to playback queue.
3. Click en el botón play.
4. Comience a cantar.

Step 7: Voice Remover - Removedor De Voz

Had forgotten a very important detail, remove the singer's voice, to do this we need another plugin called foo_dsp_centercut, the installation process is the same as previous plugins.
To use it follow these steps:

1. Files> Preferences> Playback> DSP Manager
2. on Available DSPs column are two filters called Center Cut - Center and Center Cut - Sides.
3. Select either one and press the arrow pointing to the left to move it to the Active DSPs column
4. Click Ok and hear the difference.

Try which one works best, as all filters of this type I've tried it is not perfect and does not always work.


Había olvidado un detalle muy importante, eliminar la voz del cantante, para hacerlo necesitamos otro plugin llamado foo_dsp_centercut, el proceso de instalación es igual a los anteriores.
Para utilizarlo seguimos los siguientes pasos:

1. Files > preferences > playback > DSP Manager
2. En la columna Available DSPs encontrará dos filtros llamados Center Cut - Center y Center Cut - Sides.
3. Seleccione alguno de los dos y presione la flecha que apunta a la izquierda para pasarlo a la columna Active DSPs
4. Click en Ok y escuche la diferencia.

Pruebe cual de los dos funciona mejor, como todos los filtros de este tipo que he probado no es perfecto y no siempre funciona.

Step 8: A Little More Customization - Algunos Ajustes Finales

The plugin Lyric Show 3 saves lyrics in a special folder, if you want to save them somewhere else you can do as follows:
File> preferences> tools> Lyric Show 3> Lyric Saving.
Select where you want to save the song lyrics, in my case I prefer "save to tag" option.
You can try changing columns, panels, etc. until you are happy with the result.

El plugin Lyric Show 3 graba las letras de las canciones en una carpeta especial, si quiere grabarlas en otro lugar puede hacerlo de la siguiente manera:
File > preferences > tools > Lyric Show 3 > Lyric Saving.
Seleccione donde quiere grabar la letra de las canciones, en mi caso prefiero grabarlas en las etiquetas.
Cambie las columnas, los paneles, etc. hasta que este satisfecho con el resultado.
