RC Boat Made Out of Polyester

In this DIY, I will show you how to make an RC boat out of polyester, starting with a model of wood. Because there are to many photo's (250+), I' ve made 5 clips with the most important photo's in it.

There are four big steps:

Making the model
Making the mould
Making the boat in polyester
Finishing the boat

I am from Belgium, so please excuse me if I make any language mistakes.

In the next clip you can see the boat in action.

Step 1: Part 1 - the Model in Wood

In this part, I will show you how to make the model of wood. You can find many plans on the internet.

Step 2: Part 2 - Making the Mould.

In this video, I will show how to make a mould with plaste. Later on, I will use this mould to make the polyester boat.

Step 3: Part 3 - Making the Polyester Boat

In this step, you will see how to make the boat in polyester. You can also use epoxy. Because there are to many photo's in this step, I've placed them in the video below.

Step 4: Part 4 - Setting Up the Inside of the Boat

We can now start with the inner side of the boat.
The engine is from a hand drill.

Step 5: Part 5 - Finishing the Boat

We can now finish the boat. After that, he is ready to go onto the water.

I used the Hitec Flash 5 system pack (transmitter, receiver and 4 servo's), and a speed controller of Protech of 30A max. The battery has 7 cells and provides 8.4 V. Again, most of the pictures are in the video.

Step 6: Testing the Boat.

Thank you for watching this instructable. I hope it was a good one. If there are questions, you may ask them. again, sorry if I made any language mistakes.

Hey, this is a great instructable and is very informative. Just one thing is missing... pictures! It really helps a lot when trying to follow directions so you should consider taking some photographs. Once you do that and leave me a message when you have so that we can publish your work. Thanks! Thanks for the cool instructable and we hope to publish this soon!

The motor comes from a drill machine. The sender/receiver has been bought in a store, they are easy to connect.

That tail fin is one that I bought, just connect it with a servo in the boat.

I found the plans on this forum: http://www.modelpowerboat.com/forum/downloads.htm
There you have to choose which category you want. The boat I made is from the category "Free RC Model Mono Hull Boat Plans" - model "Wildthing". Before you can download them, you have to register to the forum. When downloaded, you have a .rar file with the plans in it.
