Intro: RECORD FLOWERS

I first made these flowers in 2001.They were PLANTED along one wall in my huge master bathroom. They are such fun.

Besides planting them on a wall in your house, or in a vase, you could PLANT them on a plank or a sheet of wood and PLANT them outside your home. On the patio. Or near the pool.

Step 1: SUPPLIES:

  1. albums,You Will Need As Many Albums As Flowers You Plan on Making. I Made 5.
  2. oven proof bowls, and a cookie sheet
  3. hammer and an awl (to make hole to start your anchors)
  4. anchors and screws
  5. you will need a vase of some sort (if you don't want all your flowers on the wall)
  6. dowels, I used 3. and I cut a notch near the top of each (to hold the wire in place)
  7. wire
  8. paints, greens (any shade you like) and colors for flower shadows and centers

Step 2: PAINT FLOWER STEMS

  1. paint the stems on the wall
  2. and a little grass
  3. use the hammer and awl to set the anchors at the top of your flower stems
  4. I added water to some paint
  5. paint the flower shadows, I did one pink and the other lavender
  6. paint the dowels green

Step 3: Set Oven to 170

  1. set your bowl upside down on cookie sheet
  2. place record on top
  3. put in oven 4 minutes

Step 4: SAFTY

I have never smelled any fumes while doing this.

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SMELL THEM,

DOESN'T MEAN THEIR NOT THERE!

Please, use proper ventilation

Step 5: REMOVE FROM OVEN

After 4 min your LP will look something like this. It is malleable at this point.

Step 6: FORM INTO FLOWER

  1. while your record is warm, you can help shape it.
  2. you need to use oven mitts or a towel of some sort
  3. the records will be hot. but not for long. they cool quickly
  4. once they start to cool, you wont be able to shape them
  5. if this happens before you are satisfied with the shape of your flower, you can heat it again

Step 7: FLOWERS ARE READY TO ASSEMBLE

these 3 I attached to dowels with wire and buttons

2 of them I painted the center

Step 8: DONE

here are the 3 flowers, in a denim covered vase I had in my sewing room.

ENJOY!

These look very nice, I' ve been wondering what to do with those old vinyl records (if I didn't throw them out already...) The only thing that I'm concerned about is the possibillity of toxic fumes..... It's probably a good idea to ventilate the room well and clean your oven when/after you do this. Apart from that, very cool project and nice Instructable!

Hi Gadisha, You are so right! Proper ventilation should be practiced.

I have never smelled any fumes when making these...but that doesn't mean their not there! I wish I had mentioned that in my Instructable. Thanks for pointing that out, and thanks for viewing.
