How to modify a Rexel LP30 Laminator for better Toner Transfers.
This is my current setup for Making PCB's using The Toner Transfer Method.
A Rexel LP 30 laminator with a Samsung ML-2165W Laser Printer
and some cheap Yellow Transfer paper.
I get very good results with this combination with the laminator set at 125 degrees (Max Temperature).
On larger boards and double sided boards The results are not as impressive as their is not enough heat to properly transfer all of the toner, and quiet a few touchups are required.
So I came up with this Simple Modification for the Laminator to increase the heat range.
Step 1: Dissasemble the Laminator
USE EXTREME CAUTION THIS EQUIPMENT OPERATES AT MAINS POTENTIAL .
ISOLATE THE POWER BEFORE OPENING CASE.
With a fillips head screwdriver remove the 5 screws from the bottom of the laminator and remove the top case.
Remove the heat shield above the PCB and then unplug the wires from the PCB remove the 2 screws and the PCB.
Turn the bottom case over and remove the 4 screws that hold the roller assembly in place,Turn over
and remove the 4 screws that hold the roller assembly in place and 2 screws with springs under them and remove the metal plates, the roller assembly with the motor and gears attached can now be removed from the case.
Step 2: Parts Required
These are the parts you will need.
1 10k Slide Potentiometer
1 Thermal Fuse - 152 degrees
1 1k 1/2 watt Resistor
Step 3: Modification
Remove the Thermal Fuse (141 C) from underneath the Bottom heating element . Replace with a New Thermal fuse rated at 152 centigrade or higher.
Remove the Slide Potentiometer (5k) from the top case and replace with a 10k Slide Potentiometer.
Grab the PCB and remove R 17 (3.3k) and replace with a 1k 1/2 watt Resistor.
Re-assemble the Laminator and you are done.
Your Rexel LP30 Laminator will now have a Temperature range between 65 degrees to 145 degrees Centigrade.
