RGB Blinking Led Cube Box _4rM_Pk_ Version

Introduction: RGB Blinking Led Cube Box _4rM_Pk_ Version

I did this project summer of 2009
I can't take all the credit for my work i got the idea from this guy:  Author:AlexTheGreat : but turned it around 360 degrees and made my own cube much less messier :D

Things You need:

1: X1= Plexiglas: (Clear Plexiglass, 9.5 x 11.5 x .25") usually runs for around $10-19 in home depot
2: X1= a sharp edge blade.
3: X1= Black electrical tape. (or any black tape or black paint)
4: X1= High-Brightness 7-Color 5mm Blinking LED ( buy it at radio shack for $2.49)
5: X1= A old cordless phone battery rating of 3.5 volts.
6: X2= few wires
7: X1= Push Button switch
8: X1= A GLUE GUN
9: X2= WOOD PIECES 1/2 inch cubes
10: X1= very strong glue and regular paper glue.
11: X1= transparent paper to print your designs from laser jet printer.

READ THE NOTES ON THE PICS FOR MORE HINTS AND DETAILS

Step 1: Cutting Plexiglas

OK ONCE YOU GOT ALL THE STUFF LETS GET STARTED.

PIC1+2: INFO
DRAW THE LINES ON THE PLEXIGLASS 2INCHES BY 2INCHES
TAKE YOUR SHARP EDGE BLADE AND GO OVER THE LINES 2 TIMES SO YOU HAVE NICE CUTS
---TO cut the plexiglass put it on a solid flat chair or any other sruface which is like 6 inches above the floor then you see in pic 2 where i have the left part covered with wood  and the other part i left uncover thats how you do it put pressure on the wood all the time equal on all sides might want you friends to help you out if u r new. then bend the other side downwords  to break that strip do the same thing for all strips and then break them in to smaller pieces.

PIC3:
RESULTS LOOKS LIKE.

Step 2: Putting Pleaxiglass Together

STEP2: PUTTING IT TOGETHER WITH HOT GLUE GUN

PIC1: INFO

-A-ok here is my cube with all glue gunned on 8 sides
--now your cube is a bit loss and you can twist it around to prevent that
use the 2 wood small blocks and put them in 2 corners to make it stable. look at pic 2

--B- you take white garbage bag and stick it to the inner walls of the cube to make the light look defused like blurry.
look at pic3

Step 3: Making the Led Circuit.

NOW THE BOX IS DONE WE MAKE THE CIRCUIT FOR LED.

NOW ON THE TOP OF THE CUBE COVER MAKE A HOLE  SO THAT YOU CAN FIT THE BUTTON ON IT LOOK IN PIC1

-----put 1 drop of hot glue on the LED TO MAKE IT MORE DIFFUSED--------

LOOK IN DIAGRAM PIC 2

FINAL RESULT IN PIC 3, 4,5

Step 4: Final-Printing the Designs and Cutting Them.& Sticking Them.

NOW THE BOX IS READY WE DO SOME PRINTING AND CUTTING

NOW WE NEED OT PRINT OUR DESIGNS

IF YOU USE PHOTO SHOP YOU ARE GOOD TO GO
MAKE NEW DOCUMENT: 2 INCHES BY 2 INCHES  AT 300 DPI

REMEMBER ALWAYS CHOSE YOUR------- BACKGROUND BLACK---------- AND FONT WHITE -----------

USE DOME ALIEN FONTS TO MAKE IT LOOK WEIRD AND CRAZY MY SMAPLES ARE IN THERE

----1----
IF YOU USE PAINT IN MICROSOFT WINDOWS:  MAKE NEW DOCUMENT AT 600 PIX BY 600 PIX
MAKE 6 OF THOSE PICS  AND
THEN MAKE NEW DOCUMENT OF ------2550------BY-------3300
AND PLACE 6 OF THOSE PICS IN THIS ONE AND PRINT
WHEN YOU PRINT MAKE IT FIT TO PAGE IN OPTIONS AND YOU R DONE

USE LASER PRINTERS BECAUSE THE INK IS MORE SOLD AND DOES NOT LET THE LIGHT GO THROUGH.

REMEMBER ALWAYS CHOSE YOUR------- BACKGROUND BLACK---------- AND FONT WHITE  -----------

USE DOME ALIEN FONTS  TO MAKE IT LOOK WEIRD  AND CRAZY  MY SMAPLES ARE IN THERE

---2---- CUT THE PICS WITH YOUR BLADE AND STICK THEM ON THE BOX WITH PAPER GLUE NOT GLUE-GUN GLUE.

LET IT DRY AND TEST IT

Step 5: ---optional Step------ Making It Sexy.

-------optional ------ADDING FINAL TOUCHES TO THE PERFECT CUBE.
-
ok now the cube is covered with our designs
-
the edges look messed up to hide them we use electrical tape on the corners :D

and all done

Hey where to get the glue gun in Islamabad?

About to embark on this, just a few questions:

    1. In video color changes, how is this achieved without change in voltage? From my limited knowledge I thought multi-LED achieve different colour by applying different voltage.

    2. How to remove battery/do you tack the door with switch?

    1. Whats with the extra loop of cord[yellow] sticking out of box? https://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/FWO/OMQ5/GAK7S3F2/FWOOMQ5GAK7S3F2.MEDIUM.jpg

    Thanks,
    Joe

---- Its built into the led if you buy the "7-Color 5mm Blinking LED"

    2. How to remove battery/do you tack the door with switch?
-----well i just open the door , I made a tiny hole in the door and the cube wall and to lock it I used solid wire

-- thats just for my convince to hang it to something :) you dont' need to have it sticking out.

Yes sure u can use it the thing is check the size of it. if its longer then 2inches it wont fit in the cube or you will need to make bigger squares 3 by 3 inches
    Problems u will face:

it wont last u long enough.
    how u will charge it?

if you got something to charge it with then give it a go and just do the experiment once u do this try to do it with a phone battery :D it stores more evergy resulting in long lasting.. it will last you day and half if u use it as normal use not continues use.
