Introduction: Rainbow Craft Stick Wastebasket

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

Make a colorful statement while throwing out trash with this rainbow craft stick wastebasket!

Note: This was inspired by a project from a Glue class taken with audreyobscura.

Step 1: Materials List

What you need to make this are...

  • rainbow craft sticks
  • white glue
  • scissors
  • a printable pattern of a your choice of size
  • cardboard
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks

Step 2: Prep Cardboard

First, cut the size pattern that you plan to use on a piece of cardboard, and cut out the shape.

Step 3: Make the Wastebasket

Now, use dots of hot glue to stick your first few craft sticks onto the cardboard. Then, alternate using white glue to work your way up to the height that you want for your wastebasket. My original wastebasket is about 10 inches tall, so I would need about at least 2 to 3 packages of craft sticks. Wait for about 3 minutes between layers, and let dry throughout before using!

If you want, you can also finish off with a spritz of clear acrylic top coat to seal!

Step 4: Done!

Now, just stash a small garbage bag into your newly made wastebasket, and it's ready to use for cleaning! This also makes for a great portable wastebasket for those on the go, especially when it fits perfectly in the back in the car for easy clean-up!
