This bright and cheerful rainbow wall hanging measures approximately 14 inches wide by 10 inches long.

This instructable uses the traditional rainbow colours of purple, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, but you can experiment with any colours you like.

You will need:

- Natural cotton rope. I used 5 mm macrame cord, but any width rope would work, as long as it's natural cotton. The key to getting the fringe on the ends of the rainbow is natural cotton, not synthetic rope.

- Yarn (violet, Indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red)

- Needle & thread

- Scissors

Step 1: Create the Purple Row

The first row you will create will be the smallest one, or the purple one in the sample photo.

Cut out ten 14 inch lengths of macrame rope.

Gather all 10 ropes, and tie a knot around them using the purple yarn approximately two inches from the ends.

Tightly wrap the purple yarn around the bundled macrame ropes, making sure to cover the short end of the purple yarn as you go.

Continue wrapping until you have about two inches of macrame rope left, tie a knot, and cut the yarn leaving a few inches.

Step 2: Create the Indigo Row and Attach to Purple

Bend your purple row into an arc shape, and use it to measure the length of macrame rope needed for your second row. You'll want to have two inches of macrame rope on either side of the arc for the fringe.

Cut ten pieces of macrame rope, and wrap them using the same method as the previous step, this time using indigo yarn.

Bend the completed indigo row into an arc alongside the purple row, and secure using a needle and thread.

Step 3: Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!

Repeat Step 2 for the blue, green, yellow, orange, and red rows.

Measure macrame rope, wrap with yarn, and secure to previous row.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

Unravel the ends of the macrame ropes to create the fringe, and trim to desired length.

Secure a ribbon or small piece of yarn to the back for hanging.
