Rainbows Cast in Resin Coasters!

Hi Instructable friends, I'm Natalie from Doodlecraft sharing an amazing rainbow project. If you like it, please vote for me in the Rainbow Contest and check out my blog for more awesome projects.

Cast a rainbow in resin for the most stunning and beautiful coasters! Rainbows coasters are simple to make, great for beginners and only use a few supplies. These coasters will not only protect wood surfaces in the home, but look absolutely amazing in the process. Make a set of rainbows cast in resin today!

Supplies:

Supplies Needed: (amazon affiliate links)

Alcohol Inks

Silicone Mold

EasyCast Clear Casting Resin

Resin mixing supplies (2 measured cups, stirring sticks, and gloves)

Cardboard box that fits the molds

Heat Gun/Mini Torch

Step 1: Mix the Resin

Place the resin molds inside the box that fits them. This will prevent dust or bugs from settling in the resin while curing.

Read the directions for the casting resin completely and thoroughly before opening the resin. I am only familiar with this brand of resin EasyCast, so my instructions are specific for this brand. The resin is mixed in a 1 part resin and 1 part hardener ratio. Mix up 4 ounces of resin for each coaster and stir for 2 full minutes, scraping the sides and the stick periodically. Then pour the resin into a second cup and mix again with a new stick for 1 full minute. Don't whip the resin, stir gently to minimize bubbles.

Next, pour 4 ounces of resin into each mold cavity. (I mix 8 ounces at a time.)

Use a heat gun or mini torch and pop any bubbles that have formed after pouring.

Step 2: Drops of Alcohol Ink

Next add drops of alcohol ink in each resin filled coaster...while the resin is still wet. White or metallic alcohol ink settle lower than the colored inks, so layering colors with white or metallic is a good technique.

Drop the ink around the coasters until about 30-40 drops have been added to each coaster.

Then gently close up the box to keep the dust out and let the resin cure for 24 hours.

Step 3: The Big Reveal!

After 24 hours of curing, open the box and remove the silicone molds. Gently pull each resin coaster out of the silicone molds and behold the beauty! So simple, right!? This is definitely a craft that you can create yourself! Just get the supplies and get started.

Even though I dropped alcohol ink in the resin nearly the same way in each coaster, they all turn out so differently! They are gorgeous and stunning. The alcohol inks are like a rainbow suspended in time!

They are a gorgeous statement and a super fun craft!
