Introduction: SF Giants 2014 WS Crown

About: I'm a maker. I like the challenge of re-using discarded materials or using common objects/materials to create something intriguing and visually interesting . Cardboard is a go-to material. Bonus: if I can also…

What better way to celebrate the GIANTS 2014 WORLD SERIES win than with a one-of-a-kind crown!

This is what you'll need to make it:

  • Giants Baseball cards representing the World Series roster
  • Corrugated single ply cardboard - 4" x 30" plus scrap
  • 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" template
  • Hot glue gun
  • Gold spray paint
  • 3-D fabric paint
  • Laminator (optional)

Step 1: How to Make an Awesome Giants Crown

Since I was making several crowns for myself and my Giants peeps I scanned the baseball cards and enlarged them a bit to 4" x 3". Then I laminated them. (so I could wear my crown in the elements!)

Take the piece of corrugated cardboard and measure to your head with a 1" overlap. Score it 1" from the edge and bend the flutes toward themselves. Cut out the center crown piece and make sure the top and bottom of the diamond line up with the vertical flutes. (so that it will bend)

Use the 3-D fabric paint to put the graphics on the crown center diamond. This has to be done ahead as the paint needs to dry overnight.

Spray paint the smooth side of the head piece of cardboard with gold paint. Same for the 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" center diamond.

Use hot glue to create the crown - fit to your head. Because of the fold you will have some leeway. Hot glue the center diamond to the front of the crown. Glue your players around the crown at an angle that matches the center diamond. Attach another set of players to the inside. You'll need to cut off a corner and let them snuggle up inside the fold of the crown. You can save the cut off bit and glue it on the back of the front card if you want to get fancy.

Step 2: Finish

Wear proudly! In years to come you'll be able to look at your crown and remember these players in their prime and their amazing accomplishment!!! (even Pablo) GO GIANTS!!
