HI HERE YOU CAN FIND A VIDEO OF THE FINAL RESULT OF THE PROJECT!
BILL OF MATERIALS THAT YOU NEED
1) SUP (STAND UP PADDLE) with removable fins.
2) ONE NOZZLE ROV THRUSTER you can find it at www.rovthruster.com
3) One electric motor hexTronik DT750 or DT700 or Volantex 4023 Brushless Motor 850 (for this last motor you will have to add a spacer under the foot of the motor to increase the highness of about 5mm)
4) ESC for the motor (better if with forward and reverse function) I used this https://hobbyking.com/it_it/hobbykingr-tm-brushles...
5) I suggest to buy also the programmer for this ESC, it's cheap and it will let you set some precious parameters easily (safety cut off voltage near 9V for Li-ion, run mode mode 2, reverse force 100% and neutral range 10%) https://hobbyking.com/it_it/hobbykingr-tm-programm...
6) Arduino board to control the ESC, I used the arduino Uno version, you can use whatever you prefer.
7) 10Kohm linear rail resistance, you can use any kind of potentiometers (this will pilot forward and reverse) I used this https://www.ebay.it/itm/BOURNS-PTB0143-2010BP-B103...
8) Battery. Example 12V 70Ah Li-ion but you can choose any 12V battery with enough capacity for your needs. Pay attention to max consumption current it should be at least 15A but better 20A and above.
9) Cables and connectors. Use thick wires for ESC to motor connection suitable to carry about 10 to 20A, XT60 conectors are ok.
10) Ice chest to contain battery, arduino board and ESC. Yes the one that you use on the beach for preserve drink coolness IS PERFECT :)
11) (OPTIONAL) Volt/Ampere meter This will give you information about voltage status of the battery and current consumption of the entire system. For example my battery can generate a maximum of 25Ampere.I used this https://www.ebay.it/itm/Voltmetro-amperometro-100...

Step 1: BATTERY CONNECTION
1) The battery is connected only to the ESC red (+12V) and black (GND)THICK wires, don't connect arduino with the battery.
Step 2: ESC CONNECTION
1) The ESC generate also 5V tension that will be needed to power our arduino board. So conect them to Vin and GND pins of the arduino board.
2) The ESC's three THICK blue wires are connected to the three brushless motor wires, you can attach them as you prefer, it doesn't matter the order.
3) The ESC input signal (marked as S on the ESC itself) is connected to DIGITAL Pin 9 of arduino board (PWM output pin).
4) the little switch turn on and off the ESC
Step 3: RESISTANCE CONNECTION
1) The 10 Kohm linear rail resistance is connected to the pin 5V and GND the third pin is connected to A0 (analog input)
You can use different type of variable resistance, like round potentiometer.
You can fix the resistance wherever you prefer outside of the ice chest.
Step 4: OPTIONAL
OPTIONAL: you can use a volt/amper meter to check the power consumption and status of the battery voltage.

Step 5: CHECK THE SYSTEM
Here you can download a videoclip of the system and the brushless motor as it work both forward and reverse.
To minimize the risk due to the nozzle propeller is better to consider an emergency STOP in case of imminent danger or in case you fall from your SUP in the middle of nowhere, this can be very very dangerous.
the solution can be a total shut down of the entire system or a shut down of the arduino board, any kind of solution that can STOP the motor in case of emergency is very recommendable even if you are a pro of SUP.
Step 6: NOZZLE Preparation
Assemble the nozzle kit following the instruction at: https://www.rovthruster.com/installation.htm
Step 7: Apply the Nozzle to Your Central SUP Fin
Make two 3mm size holes and fix the nozzle to the central fin of your SUP with two M3 screws.
Then sold the 3 wires to one long cable that will reach the inside of the ice chest where is placed the ESC. The cable used must be able to carry about 20A
Step 8: ICE CHEST
1) The Ice chest has to be fixed on top of the SUP
2) Make one hole on the front, needed for the variable resistance wires, and the volt/amper meter
3) Make one hole on the back, needed for the cable that give power to the brushless motor.
TIPS: make these holes quite high so that no water will be able to enter the chest.
4) Place the arduino board, the ESC and the battery INSIDE THE ICE CHEST and fix them inside as you prefer. this will give water protection to all the sensible electronic parts.
Step 9: WARNING!!!!!
WARNING This is a home made system and so there are many risks using electrical equipment, many more risks in this case also due to the water presence.
Another risk is due to the nozzle propeller that can badly hurt yourself or any one near you.
