Introduction: Sandwich Pie

Step 1: Ingredients

This is everything you'll need, but feel free to mix and match and do your own thing.

Step 2: Sautee

Cut up your onion and mushrooms, toss with olive oil, and add cayenne, thyme, salt, and pepper. Oh, and don't forget the garlic! I used 3 medium sized cloves, finely diced.

Sautee that until brown.

Step 3: Veggies

Toss your kale, bell peppers, and basil with some olive oil and lemon juice.

This will add some nice color and crunch to your sandwich pie, in addition to making this somewhat healthy.

Step 4: Meat

You can really use any meat you want, but I had some beef and andouille sausage.

I cooked the beef with lemon juice and taragon, and just browned the pre-cooked sausage.

Step 5: Sauce

Experiment! Use whatever seems good.

I used a ratio of 1/3 horseradish and 2/3 mayonnaise, with a spot of A-1 because I felt like it.

Step 6: Cheese

Who doesn't love cheese?

I used monterey jack and cheddar, but you can do whatever you want.

Step 7: Assembly

Hollow out your sourdough round, and get all your prepped ingredients ready! It's about to go down.

Step 8: Assembly

Coat the bread with your sauce, and being layering ingredients. Here's my order, from bottom up:

Monterey Jack, beef, mushrooms and onions, cheddar, bell peppers and kale, mushroom and onions, sausage, monterey jack, beef, bell peppers and kale, chedder and jack.

The trick is to keep smushing it down. No matter how full you think the sandwich is, there's always room. Just smush!

Step 9: Wrap

Now wrap that bad boy in foil, and then again in a plastic bag in case of leakage.

Step 10: Smash

Get something heavy and place it on top of your wrapped sandwich for about 2 hours. You can do less, but the longer it takes, the more your flavors will mingle.

Step 11: Bake

Now take your flattened sandwich and toss it in the oven, still in the foil, for about 20 minutes at 315 degrees.

Step 12: Enjoy!

Remove, cut, and enjoy! Be careful, because its size is deceiving. One slice will put you into a luxurious food coma, so two slices might put you into an actual coma.
