Introduction: Scrambling for Santa Hats

About: I enjoy crafting and am always tinkering with something. I really love to work on my 1" scale doll house and the things that go inside of it.

Save the egg shells after cracking them open when you make scrambled or fried eggs and turn them into Santa Hat Ornaments to hang on Christmas Tree! I do not have pictures to go with steps as I made these several years ago but I will try to explain it well enough.

Supplies

You will need:

* egg shells(after cracking for scrambled or fried eggs)

* Elmer's Glue

* Red & or Green Paint or Both

* cotton balls or stuffing from old pillow

* Model Magic air dry clay

* Scissors

*String or yarn

* Small Bells

* Large needle or pin

* Clear Spray

* Resin (optional)

Step 1: Step 1: Wash & Dry

After breakfast carefully rinse the egg shell halves a put aside to let dry completely. One egg will make two hats.

Step 2: Step 2: Glue

After shells are dry, take a bit of Elmer's Glue on your finger and coat the shell inside and out. let dry.

Note: shells will be a bit jagged but the cotton placed on later should cover this

Step 3: Step 3: Make a Hole

After glue is dry, take a large pin or needle and with outer part of shell laying on workspace, gently push needle into center and twist back and forth applying a little pressure, to make a hole in tip of shell where the string will go through. You will have to carefully break away the shell making the hole big enough for your string or yarn to go through. Set aside.

Step 4: Step 4: Molding Hat

Take a small amount of the air dry clay and form the top part of the Santa hat imagining how it looks when it is kind of folded down. Make it proportionate to rest of hat which is the shell. Once satisfied, let it dry and glue that molded piece onto the shell half.(be careful not to cover the hole you just made it top of shell)

Step 5: Step 5: Paint

Now take the paint you have chosen and paint the hat inside and out including the molded part. I did mine red. Let dry

Step 6: Step 6: String

When hat is dry, take your yarn and attach small bell (or Bow or other object you choose) to one end. Take the other end of yarn and go up inside the shell through the hole you made earlier. Adjust it so your bell hangs down where you like it then make a knot close to top of hat. Add a little dab of glue in hole to keep yarn in place. the remainder ir yarn you can tie with a loop for hanging or even tie it onto an ornament hook.

Step 7: Step 7: Trim

Take cotton ball or stuffing from old pillow or even cotton that comes in aspirin bottles, and stretch it around base of hat and a ball on tip of hat, glue in place.

Step 8: Step 8: Final Step

Spray with a clear coat and let dry. I was working on a resin project and had a bit left over so I painted some resin all over hat and it made it nice and shiny and probably a bit less fragile so this may be an option you want to consider. You can use the egg carton to store your hats in!
