Introduction: Sealife Mobile

Our Sealife Mobile project combines 3 systems to make a moving, changing mobile.

The fish and the circular ring are from a Haba Fusebeads kit.

The metal structure and pulley mechanism are from Actobotics robotics.

The dc motor and electrical circuit are from littlebits!

It was really cool to figure out a way to make this project from pre-existing parts, and they all work together really well.

The fusebead fish are strung on fishing line through the circular frame which was part of the Haba fusebeads kit.

Step 3: Actobotics Structure

We supported the ring, pulley and the littlebits dc motor on a frame we made from Actobotics beams. The pulley mechanism which is attached to the dc motor is also Actobotics. The pulley converts the speed of the dc motor to half, so the arm rotates half as fast as the motor.

Step 4: Littlebits Circuitry and DC Motor

The power, circuit and dc motor are all littlebits, which power the pulley. The circuit is made up of a power source (11v batery), a wire, amotion sensor, a timeout bit (which turns the mobile off after a certain time), all connected to the dc motor.

The dc motor attaches to the pulley gear with a hub mount from Actobotics. We chose Actobotics because they make a hubmount which exactly matches the 3 mm diameter of the dc motor shaft.
