Introduction: Simple Christmas Sled

About: Hi my name is David, I like to make things out of Wood, also like to take things apart and fixed them.

Today i will show you how I made a Simple Christmas Sled decoration. This is a easy project, that anybody can make using only 1 board and a few tools. Hope you will enjoy.

I have included a video, for the ones that would like to watch the process.

You will need the following:

One 7 1/4" wide by 6 foot long and 3/4" thick common lumber from Home Depot or Lowes

Table Saw

Jig Saw

Drill with a 1/2" Drill bit

Nail Gun or Screws

Tape Measure

Wood Glue

Red, Green and White Paint, made for Outdoor use

Paint Brushes

Clamp

1/2" Rope

9/16" long staples (2)

Step 1: Rip the Board

Rip the board on the Table saw into 3 pieces, two pieces 2" wide and one 3" wide.

Step 2: Bottom Sled Rails

Use one of the 2" wide pieces, cut down to the length of 36" long 2 pieces. Then take a square like shown in the pictures and mark from one end at a angle.

I then took a old Lid from a Peanut butter jar and made a slight radius on the other end.

Then cut on the lines with your Jigsaw.

Once you have one cut out, trace it onto the other piece and jigsaw it out

Step 3: Top of Sled

Now take the 3" wide board and cut down one 25" long and two 23" long pieces

Use the same jar lid and make Radius on the ends as shown in the pictures, use Jigsaw to cut them.

Step 4: Braces

Now place the 3" wide boards together like shown in the pictures, using blocks from the cutoffs. Measure across for the next cuts, mine was 10 7/16" long.

Take the other 2" wide board and cut 2 pieces to that length.

Also cut 1 piece 18" long and radius the corners on it. Also mark 1 inch down and center of board.

Then drill with a 1/2" Spade Drill bit for the rope.

Step 5: Paint

Now it's time to paint the pieces before assembly. I used a Green for the Bottom rails and Red for the Top pieces and White for the Steering rail.

Then let dry overnight, apply a second coat of paint if needed.

Step 6: Assembly

Now is assembly time, place the long Green runners down and attach the short Red pieces with either nails or screws. I made a mark 4" from the end for the first rail, then for the second rail 18". I then align the pieces to the edge and nailed them with 1 1/2" long nails. Then place the 3" wide strips as shown in the pictures, with the longer piece in he middle, then either nail or screw together. Measure down from the front, 3" down and make a mark, then nailed or screw the 18" wide strip to the runners, making sure it's in center.

Note be sure to apply glue before nailing

Cut a piece of 1/2" diameter rope to the Length of your choice, mine was 42" long. attach to the underside with 9/16" long staples.

Step 7: Finish

Now is time to enjoy your Christmas decoration, either hang up and have it leaning against a wall. Either way it makes a great decoration.

I hope everyone has a Happy and Merry Christmas.
