Intro: Simple Ewok Hood
I made this for my brother Corwin (3) because he wanted to be an Ewok for Purim. He wanted it to be blue. (I'll try to add more images; my Internet sucks, and others need to use it.)
Step 1: What You'll Need
Here's what you'll need:
- About a yard of fabric of your choice
- Fabric scissors
- A tape measure
- A fabric pencil or a pencil
- A pattern for inspiration
- A sewing machine is nice!
Step 2: Measure and Look
Measure the head circumference of the person you're making the hood for. This step is important!!!
Depending on how big your pattern is, you may be able to use it. If it is not, just examine it, getting a feel for the shape and where the cutout are.
Google "ewoks" to get more ideas for details. Plus get a stress-reliever (if you like Ewoks, that is)!
Step 3: Pin and Cut
Fold the fabric (the wrong way up) in half. If your pattern is large enough for you to use , pin it to the fabric and cut.
Make sure you add on some extra fabric on the length so that the hood will look more authentic.
If your pattern is not large enough: Take the number from the head circumference and divide it in half (We'll use 20" for example). Using your fabric marker, mark 10" from the fold. You may want to add an extra inch or two. Draw the basic shape of the hood, using the mark to tell you what the measurements should be. Cut your fabric, and pin.
Step 4: Make Sure You Can See...
I almost forgot to add the cutout so Corwin could see. I've never seen an Ewok that walks into walls before, so don't make the same mistake! :p
Carefully (it's full of pins!) put the hood on your subject. Using your pencil, mark where their chin and eyes are. Then carefully remove the hood. You could do this step after sewing, but this is how I did it.
Lay your fabric flat again, and cut from the eye mark to the chin, following the general shape of the pattern.
Step 5: Sew
Sew your hood, trying to keep everything even. Hem the edges of the cutout and hem the bottom of the hood if you wish.
Step 6: Yub Nub!
Put your Ewok hood on and try to roast Luke Skywalker and Han Solo (on second thought, just Luke ;p I like Han too much)
