Hello, I am 14 and this is my first instructable so please let me know about the mistakes I have done in this instructable.
In this instructable, I'll be making a circuit that can detect static electricity. One of its creator have claimed that he detected "Ghosts" using this very circuit. Enjoy making it!
Step 1: Gather the Required Stuff
For this simple circuit, you will only need a few things:
1. 3x BC547 Transistors
2. A 220R Ohms Resistor
3. A 100K Ohms Resistor
4. A 1M Ohms Resistor
5. An LED (Any Color)
6. 9V Battery With Connector
7. Some Hookup Wire or Jumper Wire
8. Long Coiled Wire or Copper Plate
9. A Breadboard
Just a wire stripper in case you have used hookup wire.
Step 2: Add the Transistors
Add all the 3 Transistors to the breadboard with their flat side facing you and with each of their pins connected in different rows (As seen in the image). While the flat side faced to you, the pin in the left is the collector, the pin in the middle is the base and the pin in the right is the emitter.
Step 3: Connect the Base and Emitters of the Transistors
Connect the base (middle pin) of the first transistor to the emitter (pin on the right) of the second transistor with a hookup or jumper wire (As shown in the image). Similarly, connect base of 2nd transistor to emitter of 3rd transistor with wire. Leave the base of 3rd transistor untouched.
Step 4: Add the 220R Ohms Resistor
Connect one end of the 220R resistor to the collector (pin on the left) and the other end to an unused row on the other side (As shown in the image).
Step 5: Add the LED
Connect the positive (Long pin) of the LED to the positive power rail and the negative (short pin) of the LED to the 220R resistor (the row where the resistor was connected). Demonstrated in the image.
Step 6: Add the Other Resistors
First, Connect the 100K resistor. Connect its one end to the collector of the 2nd transistor and other end to the positive power rail. Then connect the 1M resistor. Connect its one end to the collector of the 3rd transistor and other end to the positive power rail. This is Demonstrated in the image.
Step 7: Add the Wire for Detection
Add one end of a wire or a copper plate to the base of the 3rd transistor. The wire or the plate will be the part where static electricity will be detected.
Step 8: Add the Power Source
Connect the positive wire (red wire) of the 9v battery connector to the positive power rail and the negative wire (black wire) of the connector to the emitter of the first transistor (As shown in image).
Step 9: Get Ready to Detect "Ghosts"
As soon as you will connect the 9v battery, the LED will light up. As you will take your hand away from the battery and
the circuit, the LED will stop lighting. Now, if you will place your hand near the wire or plate at the end of the circuit, even without direct contact, the LED will light up again. One of its creator had claimed that he had detected "Ghosts" using this circuit as this circuit can detect static electricity which is EVERYWHERE.
