Intro: Slow Baked BBQ Beans and Southern Style Smoked Sausage
Certain American foods have evolved to have classic sides that go along with them. For Hamburgers, it's French Fries. For Hot dogs, it's relish (or ketchup ). And for Barbecue, it is baked beans.
No matter what type of meat you decide to barbecue, baked beans go along great with it. Southern Style Smoked Sausage (or any type of sausage) is no exception. This recipe uses a Crock pot to cook both the beans and the sausage together. There flavors blend and create a tasty Barbecue meal.

Step 1: Ingredients
This recipe doesn't use too many ingredients .
You will need:
2 cans (15.5 oz each) great northern beans, drained, rinsed
2 cans (15 oz each) black beans, drained, rinsed
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 teaspoon ground mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoon chili powder
1 package (1 to 1 1/4 lb) fully cooked Southern Style Sausage
You can use any type of sausage you want to, just make sure it is fully cooked.
Step 2: The Vegetables
This recipe is incredibly easy to make. It takes about 20 minutes to prepare.
Start by opening the cans of beans, draining them, and rinsing them. Put them in the Crock Pot. Next attack an onion with a knife and toss it it the pot once it is nicely diced. Make sure to peal the onion before you chop it. I made the mistake of not doing so the first time.
Step 3: Sauces, Seasonings, and Sugar
Now you need to add all the flavor to the meal. Dump 1 cup of BBQ sauce in the mixture. Measure 3 Tsp of ground mustard, 1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce, and 2 Tsp chili powder. Once all of those have been mixed in to the concoction you need only to add the sugar. Put Brown Sugar in a cup and punch it with your fingers to pack it down. Once it is packed to 1/4 cup , stir it in.
Step 4: Sausage
Now the last step of preparation, the sausage. Mix all the ingredients in the pot well then .Open the pack of sausage and lay it on top of the mixture.Cover the Crock Pot with a lid and set it to low. It will cook for 6 hours. Make sure to set a timer so it doesn't overcook.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Once it is done, turn the crock pot off, and dish it on a plate. This recipe serves about 5-6 people. However people will come back for more and more. This is my second instructable and my entry for the Low And Slow BBQ contest. Please rate and provide any constructive criticism. (suggestions.)
