Space Plants!

I wanted this capsule to be as compact, but also customize-able as possible to fit the different needs of different plants, as well as be inexpensive to construct. The capsule being a box allows them to be compacted together more efficiently than my original plan of having a round capsule. I decided to incorporate plants pillows, allowing the plants' roots to grow freely in the soil and fertilizer without having to compete for nutrients with other plants. The lights are LED and the intensity of the light can be changed. More water is able to enter the soil through flexible tubes connected directly to the pillow, which can be snapped in and out.

Supplies:

- Plants pillows

- LED lights

- Water capsules

- Box frame

Step 1: Determining Tools and Materials

I decided to incorporate plants pillows, allowing the plants' roots to grow freely in the soil and fertilizer without having to compete for nutrients with other plants. The lights are LED and the intensity of the light can be changed. More water is able to enter the soil through flexible tubes connected directly to the pillow, which can be snapped in and out. My classroom has a 3D printer I could use if I were to try out this capsule.

Step 2: Determining the Shape

The capsule being a box allows them to be compacted together more efficiently than my original plan of having a round capsule.

Step 3: Conveniences

I wanted the capsule to be as customize-able as possible to fit the different needs of different plants, so I added controls for the light intensity and water amount.

This is very similar to several "Tabletop" or "Kitchen" herb/vegetable mini greenhouses that have been sold for years. But yours is ideal for microgravity use as well as on ships and in desert areas. Congrads!
