If arachnophobia is a fear of spiders, is a spider obsession called arachno-obsessia? I think I had a bit too much fun painting the faces on the candy spiders of my last spider cake pops, and now I’ve contracted this disease! Spiders are definitely my favorite creature for Halloween treats.

Step 1: Supplies for Making Spider Cake Pops With Sparkle
To make these sparkly spider cake pops you will need:
Chocolate cake pops on lollipop sticks
Chocolate candy melts
Purple sparkling sugar
Soft liquorice candy
A cake pop stand
Step 2: Make Your Cake Balls
Start by following the step-by-step directions for making cake pops. Chill them in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to start turning them into spider cake pops.
Step 3: Prepare Your Spider Cake Pop Decorations
Spider Legs: Cut up your black liquorice into thin strips about 1-1/2 inches long and bend them in half. For thicker legs use log shaped liquorice as shown, for thinner legs use shoe string liquorice.
Spider Eyes: Purchase ready-made icing eyes or create your own using royal icing. For step-by-step instructions for making your own, check out Royal Icing Googly Eyes by How Does She.
Spider Mouths: Jimmies are not perfect (sshhh… don’t tell). Find the ones that have just the right curve to look like a cute spider smirk and separate them from the rest. For
As you dip each spider cake pop, be ready with your sparkling sugar and six liquorice legs.
Step 4: Dip and Decorate Your Spider Cake Pops
Remove your cake pops from the fridge, melt your chocolate according to package directions, and dip your cake pops, gently tapping them to remove excess chocolate. Moving quickly so the chocolate does not dry. Sprinkle spoonfuls of sparkling sugar onto the cake pop, turning it to cover all sides.
While the chocolate is still wet but is starting to harden, insert three spider legs into each side of the cake pop. NOTE: this step takes some trial and error. If the chocolate is too wet, the legs will fall out, however, if the chocolate is too dry you will not be able to insert the legs. If this method does not work well for you, wait for the chocolate to completely dry, use a toothpick to make a hole in the chocolate where you want each leg, and insert the liquorice.
Stand the cake pop upright in your styrofoam block or cake pop stand to dry.
After the chocolate on the cake pop has hardened, add the eyes and mouth. Dip a toothpick into the melted chocolate and apply a drop to the back of each eye and mouth. Stick them onto the cake pop where you want them positioned.
To give your spider cake pops personality, put the mouths in different positions to create smirks, use different colored sparkling sugars, or draw on additional details with your melted chocolate (I’m picturing eyelashes and girly bows!).
