Stars and Stripes Patriotic Wood Slice!

We had a huge windstorm in May and ended up with lots of logs!
I decided to put all those free materials to good use!

I love using reclaimed supplies for fun projects!

This technique is great for other things like rocks, pallets or old barn wood.

Step 1: Baking and Supplies!

First.Bake wood slice in the oven for 1 hour at the lowest setting.
Letting it bake over time helps prevent it from splitting.

I didn't sand it or smooth it off.
The paint makes it nice and smooth enough to work with!

You will also need:

White, Red, Blue and Black craft paint

Paintbrushes

Step 2: Painting!

I used Plaid Apple Barrel paints.
Paint a layer of white paint, leaving a nice edge.

Then use a pencil and write it on SUPER lightly!
Then follow along with black paint and a paintbrush.

Brush Calligraphy is so much fun!
It's the greatest way to add pizzazz to any project!

It's easy to do with a paintbrush too!
If you aren't that confident...just trace it on with pencil and fill it in with paint.

Step 3: Add Stars!

Then I added some fun pinwheel stars.

2 tones for extra depth!

Red, White and Blue awesomeness!

Step 4: Decorate and Enjoy!

It's the perfect patriotic art piece for the entry way, front porch or even hang it on a wall!
