Steampunk as an that esthetic appears to be here to stay. While being trendy for a few years it just won't seem to go away. Take one part part Victorian era fashion, add a touch of the Industrial age with a smidgeon of futuristic outlaw vibe - and you are on your way to Steampunk stardom. The fun part for me is using the metals and colors associated with this genre. I get to use gold and silver with copper and bronze (and a touch of green). Mixing some of these combinations is usually a no-no, but i say we have fun with this.

With this Instructable, I will provide for you some ideas of the "look" and "feel" of SP accessories. Today we will be creating earrings with the idea that other jewelry will follow. I will also provide links to purchase the items and possible discount code links from various retailers.

Step 1: Tools and Supplies

Supplies: This list is based on the supplies I used to create the jewelryin this ible. My goal is to give you an idea of what brings this look alive and have you continue to build from there.The links provided are just general searches so be sure to refine them as you see fit. Hobby shops are also a great place to buy these items. Check the jewelry department and end caps for deals.

Gears - Gears are the iconic look of Steampunk fashion. This is a great place to start.

Printer Parts - Someone at my old office space threw out an old printer. I was amazed at all the moving parts scattered across the parking lot and collected all of the gear parts as I proceeded to clean up the mess.

Jump Rings - These are the backbone of jewelry. They can also be found for very cheap.

Step 2: SteamPunk Earrings

This page is just an example of how I created one set of earrings. There are so many combinations to choose from.

1. Gather the materials you will need to create your earrings.

2. Enhance your finding - I sometimes use spray paint to enhance my findings. In this case I sprayed two purple acrylic robots with 18k gold paint.

3. Place a large jumpring (9mm?) around the findings and gears using your pliers. Close the ring around the gears.

4. Place a (6mm?) ring around the larger jumpring , add your earring wire and close the jumpring. Make sure your earring wire is facing the correct direction and that the jumprings are closed tight.

It is really that easy. Don't worry if you mess up a few jumprings, they are really inexpensive to begin with. Also, try not to reuse jumprings as they are really the weakest link of your jewelry.
