Step 1: Select Your Potato
For larger dogs, I like the Sweet Potato to be as large as possible.
Wash to insure there is no mold.
Step 2: Slice the Sweet Potato
Carefully cut the Sweet Potato length wise.
Step 3: Make Thick Slices
The Sweet Potato will shrink during dehydration. Cut them about 1/4 thick
Step 4: Place on Tray
Evenly space on a tray
Step 5: Method One Is Solar Dehydration
Place in the sun
Takes about a day this way. Turn over every few hours.
Bring inside as the day cools. The evening may bring dampness.
Step 6: Method Two Is Baking in the Oven
Bake at 225 F for 3-4 hours
Step 7: Method Three Is With a Dehydrator
155 F for 6-8 hours
Step 8: You Are Done?
Time will be different depending on the weather ( solar) and the thickness of the slice.
Don't stop until the jerky is a bit hard to bend.
Keep in a jar or sealed baggy to keep them from regaining moisture.
A desiccant packet is a plus
Toss to your pet for a treat that will keep them busy.
