GUAYABAS, Guavas (Psidium guajava L.) is a genus of about a hundred species of trees tropical and trees small family Myrtaceae , native to the Caribbean , Central America , North America and South America . The leaves are opposite, simple, elliptic to oval, 5-15 cm long. The flowers are white with five petals and numerous stamens . The chanicuil fruit is edible, round-shaped or pear , between 3-10 cm in diameter (up to 12 cm in selected crops).
It has a thin, delicate crust, pale green to yellow in the mature stage in some species, pink to red in others, creamy white or orange pulp with many hard little seeds and a strong characteristic aroma. It is rich in vitamins C , A , B , also has nutritional benefits as their flesh is considered acidic benefiting lowering levels of "bad" cholesterol
