Introduction: Tennis Racket Lyre

I decided to make this on a year long trip to France, and having left my guitar in Texas, I needed something to play. So when I saw an old tennis racket sitting in a pile of trash, I came up with this idea.

Step 1: Materials

For my lyre, I used an old tennis racket I found in a pile of trash and a pencil as tightener. (That's probably not what it's called, I have no idea what it is)

Step 2: Begin Pulling Out Strings

Cut one of the strings in the racket and start in threading through the holes along the sides.(in my case, the string had already snapped in a few places so I just started pulling them out) keep in mind that you want one long solid strand, but it doesn't have to be the entire thing

Step 3: Add Tightener Thingy

Find a nice place where the pencil rest from one side of the racket to another. Make sure that there are plenty of holes that can go over it. (I had about 7, you should have at least four)

Step 4: Stringing It

Find a good starting hole behind your pencil, then pull it trough. Next, find a good hole diagonally across from the starting hole. Continue threading until you have done as much will fit. (You can also use fishing line if your string snaps)

Step 5: Tying It

Once you've threaded it completely you have to take the end string and tie a figure eight knot. It doesn't have to be pull tight yet. Now, tighten it as much as you can, then the next string, then the next, and so on. Once it's tightened as much as possible, tune it. I used a free app and tuned it like a normal guitar (e, b , g, d, a, low e, and then an extra low b)

Step 6: Finishing Up

Wrap any lose ends through holes and around itself so it becomes tight and knotted
