Introduction: The Bomb Cake

This cake would make a great centrepiece for many different party themes, including Pirates, Danger Mouse or Superheroes.

Step 1: Ingredients

1 Kg Black fondant

Malteasers (optional)

chocolate coin wrappers (optional)

1 Indoor cake sparkler (mini sparkler)

Two equal sponge cakes baked in small mixing bowls

Butter cream for icing

Step 2: Assembling the Cake

Cut lightly around both cakes to remove crusts, keep these scraps in separate bowl.

Glue the two halves of the cake together with buttercream icing.

Coat entire outside of sphere thinly with buttercream to coat any crumbs. Chill in refrigerator for 15 minutes to set.

Ice again with buttercream.

Roll two large circles of black fondant and cover both sides. Roll a strip of fondant to cover the seam.

Using a fondant smoother, press along the strip gently to blend the fondant into each other.

Step 3: Making the Fuse Holder

Combine enough buttercream and your reserved cake scrapes to form into the desired shape. (see photo)

Cover this shape with black fondant.

Be sure to make an indention in the top so that there is a rim.

Place this shape on your bomb cake, towards the top and to the side. Affix it with buttercream.

Step 4: Details Around the Cake

Place your bomb cake on a cake drum.

Using buttercream, stick Malteasers around the base of the cake.

Scatter chocolate coin wrappers around the edge.

Insert mini sparkler into centre of the fuse holder.
