The Gaia Bin

The Gaia Bin is a paper recycling bin made from cardboard waste. It was designed and developed through Fusion 360 and Autodesk 123D Make.

Step 1: Design

First, I designed the bin concept on Fusion 360, and then I imported it into Autodesk 123D Make and the program generated 2D build plans to construct this bin through slotting mechanisms. There are different ways the 2D build plans are generated, I chose the radial slices option as I thought it was the most aesthetically pleasing option.

Step 2: Construction

After the 2D plans were created, I modified the top piece so that I could include a logo and then I added it into the build plans so it could be laser cut and engraved. I then sent the files to the laser machine, the photo of the laser machine shows a prototype being cut out - unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the final product. There is also a video attached to show how the bin is assembled.

Step 3: Final Product

My oh my !!! You could even transform it into an armchair !!! How clever, technical though simple (in the sense of sparse, like "scandinavian simple"), and extremely aesthetic !!! I really do like it when girls get to tackle technical things with maestria ! my generation is only getting there after having gone through knitting, sewing, cooking (all of which i adore doing though) !
