The Making of Flammie!

Introduction: The Making of Flammie!

I made a plush/felt sculpture of Flammie, from Square's Secret of Mana, for a video game themed gallery show and decided to make a slideshow showing some of the steps I did to create him. I am happy to answer questions about my process and pretty much made things up as I went along, so I am open to feedback and suggestions about new techniques. I hope people find it inspiring and helpful!

Dude, I'm definitely making one like yours! Thanks a lot for the slidey (BTW we LOLed so hard with my wife when your solder-savvy pal walked in!).

That is awsome! WIsh I had the ability to do something like that!

Interesting throw back to my early days of gaming. Thanks for that. Thoroughly enjoyable video mimicking the text box game play antics I grew up on (even though I never played this particular game, I think they all shared a sound track, lol).

Wow. I really enjoyed watching your video. Your Flammie is soooooooo cute. I do have one question. Do you have any links where I can learn about wool felting or sculpting? Did you push the wool into the foam with a needle?

Thanks! I added an annotation with a link to the felting site I go to but it's not showing up :( There is a link in the description if you click "show more" but here it is for quick reference:

They sell wool and kits on there and also have a very helpful video library about the basics of felting! It's a pretty easy thing to pick up, so I hope you give it a try!

This is absolutely fantastic! Secret of Mana was a fantastic game and it's nice to see Flammie get a little love. Great job!

Also your sculpt is first on google image search for 'flamie mana',or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&biw=1066&bih=572&ix=heb&ion=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=8OszT9xHw-qCB8XZxIAC

Thank you! The image you see though is not my Flammie, it was the original model made by Squaresoft to use in advertising and the instruction booklet back in 1993. I wanted that plush Flammie SOOO MUCH as a kid but they never mass-produced them, so I made my plushie based on that model for a video game themed fan art show. I don't know who the original artist is for that piece, or else I would have credited him in my video.

This is so creative, well done, and just downright adorable! It really takes me back as well, very nicely done my creative friend!

This is just fantastic! Not only is that one of the most impressive sculptures I've ever seen, the video is great. :D

Love that you used the music and text boxes!

Thank you so much! I am glad to hear you're a fan of SoM too, I hoped people would pick up on the details like the sprites!
