Introduction: The Marauder's Mod
In this tutorial we'll be modifying the official Marauder's map with a DIY mod I've created called the Marauder's Mod! The Noble Collection Marauder's Map is not without it's flaws. I purchased two of them from Barnes and Noble and both have the same issue. Most of you who own one (purchased in the USA) will know what I'm talking about. The first flap that opens up on the left side of the interior of the map doesn't line up! Where it says "Peeves may lurk here," it's sloppily misaligned. I've decided to fix this with a modification as well as add a reversible cover to the official map.

Step 1: Video Tutorial
Step 2: Removing the Misaligned Flap
First, make sure you have the same Marauder's Map as I do. Mine is from the Noble Collection and I purchased it at Barnes and Noble. Compare yours to the photos of mine. If you have the same version as I do, the first flap in the inner left of the map is misaligned where it says "Peeves may lurk here." I've purchased two of these maps and both have the same misalignment. Very sloppy design work if you ask me. Go ahead and tear out that flap. Make sure not to rip or tear the map as you do this.
Step 3: Printing
Print your templates on 11x17 card stock, double-sided. I've also included 8.5x11 templates, but I highly recommend the 11x17 option. I also strongly urge you to have these printed professionally somewhere. It took me a lot of trial and error to get the colors as close as I could to the actual map. If the colors don't turn out right on your printer, I've included editable Photoshop files with color adjustment layers you can mess with. Check out my video for help with that.
Step 4: Cutting
Use your ruler and X-Acto knife to cut off all of the white space from around your templates.
Step 5: Gluing and Folding
For the left flap:
Line up the three pieces of the template and glue them together as shown in the photos. There will be about an inch of overlap for you to apply the glue to. Now fold it just like the flap that you removed was folded. At this point you can line it up inside your map and glue it down.
For the reversible cover:
Line the new cover up so it overlaps on top of the old cover and make a crease at the edge so you can fold it in the right spot. Fold it in this spot (which should be about half-way) back and fourth until the fold is very flexible. Now flip the reversible cover over so you are looking at the blank side. Apply glue to the right half and glue it onto the back side of the actual cover. Do this for both sides of the cover of your map. You should be able to fold the reversible cover under the real cover or fold it in front to replace the real cover. It's a little difficult to explain, but check out the photos and video if you run into any trouble.
Step 6: You're Finished!
That's it! You're all done!
