Toolbox Cake

This cake was made for the manager of our local Lowe's store (a family friend) on his birthday. He was very surprised, and he loved it!

The toolbox is made of cake, stacked high and carved in the shape of a toolbox. We covered it in homemade marshmallow fondant that we colored red with gel food coloring. The accents (the lock, handle, and tag) were all sculpted out of colored fondant, and the lettering was hand-piped with colored royal icing.

All of the tools, including the tray and duct tape were hand sculpted out of colored fondant. They were given plenty of time to dry - some of the thicker tools can take a few days!

This cake was relatively simple, it just takes some time and effort to sculpt the different elements to make them look realistic.
