Introduction: Universal Lego Pod

About: I'm a physics student. I like to build stuff and learn about electronics.

My old legos are calling me all the time. They are fun but unuseful for other things than play like a child. But the other day, I watch some lego boxes in my closet, and I say... I can do something more!

I though and though and I remembered that I need a tripod an I have sugru. What more do I need?

Let's start to make this universal Lego pod!

Step 1: Some Stuff

To do this project you need:

Materials:

  • Lego pieces
  • Sugru
  • Camera size screw
  • Magnet
  • Sucker

Tools:

  • Power Drill
  • Scissors
  • Your imagination

Step 2: Build the Adapter

The heart of this project and the obvious requeriment: An adapter for the camera. For this step you need:

- A Lego Bionicle arm holder
- Sugru
- Power Drill
- A camera screw

First  of all, drill the "+" of the top of the Lego arm holder until the screw cross it easily(don't worry if it breaks).Afterwards, take 5g of sugru and start rolling it during 30 seconds. Then, put the screw in the hole and fill it with sugru. Save the rest of the sugru for the next project.

Step 3: Master Pieces

So as to have more than a simple tripod you can find in every shop, there're needed extra parts. This must be a pod that can work in every place, so there're needed different mods for it.

Keep on reading and get inspired.

Step 4: Master Pieces: Magnet

Materials:
- Magnet
- Bionicle arm holder
- Sugru

Take a hard disk magnet or the stronger you have and stick it with a lego arm holder using sugru.

Step 5: Master Pieces: Sucker

Materials:
- Sucker
- Bionicle arm holder
- Sugru

Tools:
- Scissors

Extract the unnecesary parts of the sucker. Cut the top in order to place there the head of the bionicle arm holder. Add Sugru and let it cure. For more info, follow the images.

Step 6: Master Piece: Sugru Grips

Those are not exactly master pieces, but a important part of the project.

Materials:
- Bionicle Feet (x2)
- Bionicle Arm (x3)
- Sugru

Simply add sugru to the base of the feets and to the arms, later you are going to see how it works.

Step 7: Mode 1: Mini-Tripod

The most simplest mode to put a camera everywhere. It's small, light and usefull.

Materials:
- Bionicle Arm holder (x2)
- Bionicle Arm -grip version- (x3)
- Lego size 2 axles (x2)
- Camera Adapter

Put the two axles in the two holes of the adapter. Afterwards, add the other holders, one in each axle and looking to the opposite side. Finally, insert the grip version arms in the three holes. For more details, look the pictures bellow.

Step 8: Mode 2: the Snake

You can use this mode so as to attach your camera to a big branch, to have a higher perspective or make your instructables photos tying it to your own arm.

Materials:
- Bionicle arm holder (x2)
- Bionicle dual arm holder (x8)
- Bionicle arm (x8)
- Bionicle arm -grip version- (x2)
- Lego size 2 axles (x10)
- Camera adapter

Make the structure we made in Mode 1 without insert the three arms. Later attach the dual arm holders in pairs using the size 2 axles (2 axles per couple). Insert two arms among the holders. In the final holes, put the grip version holders on them. For more details, look at the pictures bellow.

Step 9: Mode 3: the Sucker Pod

Everywhere you go, every travel you do you will find mirrors, crystals or plain surfaces that are hard to put a camera on it. That's going to end with our third mode, the sucker.

Materials:
- Bionicle Arm holder (x4)
- Sucker master piece
- Lego size 2 axles (x4)
- Camera Adapter

Make the structure we made in Mode 1 without insert the three arms. Introduce two axles in each side of the sucker master piece. Insert two arms among the holders. Then, attach one arm holder to each axle. Look at the pictures bellow for more information.

Step 10: Mode 4: the Magnet Pod

Use it in your fridge. Place it in the pc case when you are making a pc hardware turorial. Just find a steelness site where you can put it!

Materials:
- Bionicle Arm holder (x4)
- Magnet master piece
- Lego size 2 axles (x4)
- Camera Adapter

Make the structure we made in Mode 1 without insert the three arms. Introduce two axles in each side of the magnet master piece. Then, attach one arm holder to each axle. Insert two arms among the holders. Look at the pictures bellow for more information.

Step 11: Mode 5: the Pliers Pod

Sometimes, when you go camping there is a tube, a branch or a stick exactly in the perfect place you want to put your camera to take a picture with your friends. Enter in the photo group with this unusual mode.

Materials:
- Bionicle Feet-grip version- (x2)
- Bionicle arm holder (x2)
- Bionicle arm (x2)
- Camera adapter
- Lego size 2 axle (x3)
- Lego size 5 axle
- Lego size 2 head (x2)
- Lego "L" 5 holes piece
- Rubber band

To make it more simple to explain, just look at the shots.
