Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at Instructables! Let's make a sweet robot valentine together to celebrate. It's fun and easy to build, and even holds candy! Building Robot Cupid also helps pump up your 2D to 3D skills while making a thoughtful gift. Build this project with family, friends, teachers & students*, or for yourself. Instructables is also running a Valentine's Day Robot Papercraft Challenge & Giveaway!

When you post a photo of your Robot Cupid (here on this Instructable as an "I Made It", or on Twitter, or Instagram), we’ll send you an Instructables giveaway pack! Additionally, Instructables staff will feature the best recreations of this papercraft project on our Twitter and Instagram Stories (and tag you, of course).

Here’s how to participate:

  • Create your valentine by following the detailed instructions in this project.
  • Post a photo of your papercraft to Instagram and/or Twitter, tagging @instructables and #RobotCupid. (You’ll have to follow us on each platform so we can DM you.)
  • Alternatively, post your creation as an "I Made It" at the bottom of this project.
  • We must receive submissions and iterations of this project by February 18, 2019 (11:59pm Pacific Time) to be eligible for this offering.

Step 1: Supplies

  • Printed templated (regular 8.5x11" or A4 copy paper)
  • Scissors
  • Glue (glue stick preferred)

Print Options:

  • Color: Full color print - ready to go!
  • BW: Black and white print - color it in!
  • Blank: Black and white print with blank template - decorate it yourself!

Step 2: Cutting

  • Cut along the outer edge of all of the papercraft pieces.

Step 3: Assembling the Head

  • Fold along the edges.
  • Glue the tabs to create the upper head and inner mouth area.

Step 4: Assembling the Body

  • Fold along the edges.
  • Glue the tabs to create the body, making sure to leave the back flap unglued.

Step 5: Attaching the Head and Body

  • Glue the mouth area into the upper part of the body so that the head and body align.
  • Glue the back flap on, securing it to the sides of the body and head.

Step 6: Assembling and Attaching the Arms and Wings

  • Fold the arms and wings in half where they meet.
  • Glue to secure.
  • Fold on the indicated line at the top of the arm and edge of the wing.
  • Apply glue to this folded area.
  • Attach the arms to either side of body and the wings to the back of the body.

Step 7: Love at First Sight

Congratulations you have successfully made your very own Valentine's Day Robot Cupid. Time to spread some Robot Love!

Sweet Tip: Hide candy, a note or other goodies in your Robot Cupid's mouth for a fun Valentine surprise.

Step 8: Connecting Making With Literacy Skills

Looking for meaningful ways to incorporate more making in your reading block? Robot Cupid is a great way to combine making with English/Language Arts skills. Using this ELA lesson plan you and your students can explore some amazing robot fiction/picture books and then unleash the magic of imagination in your classroom as your students write their own robot short stories. We can't wait to hear about all the creative adventures Robot Cupid has in the student stories!

Hi pfrsantos! I'm glad you enjoyed the papercraft. After the give-away closes on February 18th, Instructables will start to compile a list of participants and send out a form to collect your address. It usually takes a couple of weeks to collect everyone's contact info and start shipping things out.
