It is a common fault on these vehicles for a plastic push rod arm to wear and pop off on the gear selection mechanism; leading to gear shifting faults. Our replacement improved design push rod can be installed easily correcting this fault for the life of the vehicle. Providing a vast cost and time saving compared to replacing the complete mechanism which with the same inferior plastic rod would just fail again.
It is common on these vehicles that a poor-quality plastic linkage on the gear selector linkage mechanism pops off causing vehicle gear shift faults.
The gear linkage mechanism on these vehicles situated between the gear selector stick and the gear box commonly fails. The mechanism as a whole is rarely the fault, but rather a push rod arm which is used within the mechanism. This is made of a poor quality Nylon; this operated on metal ball joints with no lubrication and as a matter of course the plastic wears down on the ball joint sockets leading to the rod popping off of the ball joint/s. This leads to the gear change related faults described herein.
Symptoms of the fault
Symptoms can include: Complete loss of gear selection, loss of certain gears, or loss of reverse gear. Often the mechanism will get stuck in one gear. Alternatively, gears can be selected but it is a struggle to get in to / shift gears. The fault can be identified by inspecting the mechanism where by it can be seen that the OEM plastic linkage arm has popped off of its ball joint/s.

Step 1: Locate and Remove Plastic Linkage Rod
Locate the gear linkage mechanism on top of the gearbox.
If either end of the plastic rod linkage is still in place, use a spanner or pry tool to lever off of the ball joint on the linkage mechanism.
Step 2: Remove Locking Pins From Our Linkage Rod
On both ends of our linkage rod remove the locking pins.
Step 3: Attach Grease Seals and Lubricate Mechanism
Push our rubber grease seals on to the two ball joints on the mechanism.
Grease both ball joints.
Step 4: Push Fit Our New Linkage Rod
Locate our linkage rod on to the ball joints.
Our linkage comes pre-configured to the same spec as OEM, however the length of the rod and angle of the ball joints can be adjusted.
Using a pair of grips click the ball housing ends of our rod on to the ball joints.
Step 5: Fit the Locking Pins
Refit the locking pins as shown.
Test gear operation.
