Introduction: Wine Gift Bag

About: I have been sewing and crafting for several years, my children are grown so now I have lots of time to be creative. I enjoy photography, cooking, cake decorating, painting and sharing my projects with others.

When someone invites you to dinner at their home, you don't want to show up empty handed, so why not take a nice bottle of wine.

Here's a clever way to make a wine gift bag out of an old Hawaiian shirt!

Step 1: Supplies

1 Hawaiian shirt

1 solid color shirt for the lining

matching thread

sewing machine

measuring tape

scissors

24" long piece of 5/8" wide ribbon

large safety pin

Step 2: Cut Fabric

Wash the shirt before you cut it up.

Cut a rectangle 15" x 18" out of the back section of the Hawaiian shirt.

Cut another rectangle 15" x 18" out of a solid matching fabric for the lining.

Step 3: Buttonholes

For the ribbon casing you will need 2 buttonholes to thread the ribbon in and out of.

Place a scrap piece of fabric on the wrong side under where the buttonholes are going to go.

Measure 2-1/2" from the top of bag and 1-1/2" from each side.Pin.

Sew 2 buttonholes.

Step 4: Sew Sides and Bottom

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together. Pin.

Repeat for lining.

Sew down the side and across the bottom edge with 1/2" seam allowance.

With your fingernail, press the seams open.

Step 5: Corners

Open the bottom corners flat and pin according to photo.

Stitch across 1" from both corners.

Repeat with lining section.

Cut off excess fabric 1/4" from seam. Turn bag right side out.

Step 6: Lining in Bag

Place the lining inside the bag, matching seams. Turn the top edges down 1/2". Pin.

Stitch across top 1/4" from edge.

Step 7: Ribbon Casing

Stitch around the bag just above the buttonholes and then again just below the buttonholes creating the casing. Place a large safety pin on one end of the ribbon and thread it into one buttonhole, through the casing and out the other buttonhole.

Step 8: Finished Bag

Place a bottle of wine in the bag and gently pull the ends of ribbon tight and tie in a pretty bow!

Now you can take a bottle of wine to a dinner party in style.

Aloha!
