Sculpture: Head Trophy Using 3D Scanning and CNC Milling

Introduction: Sculpture: Head Trophy Using 3D Scanning and CNC Milling

About: Kiana Honarmand is an Iranian artist whose work addresses issues related to her cultural identity, the treatment of women in Iran’s society, censorship, surveillance, and the Western perception of the ...

This piece is from a series of Woman Head Trophies.

Step 1: 3D Scanning

I 3D scanned my model using the Microsoft Kinect and the Skanect Software.

Step 2: 3D Scan to Milling

I took the 3D scan from the Skanect software. Since i was using a 3 Axis CNC Router, I had to split the model in multiple parts and mill them separately to be able to get a complete form.

Step 3: Finishing

The separately milled pieces of foam were glued and coated with plaster, then were sanded and painted.

Thank you. It's a part of a series of trophies I am working on and it's a commentary of treatment of women by Iran's government. If you are interested, you can find more examples on my website: http://kianahonarmand.com/sculpture
